Jeeze Wes. What did you do? Play Bug's Bunny amd Yosemite Sam and put a finger in the end of the barrel. I hope that didn't happen to you.

Not mine, thank god. Got those in an email. Someone hotloaded some 240 grn and blew the top strap off. Took the cylinder with it.

It has nothing to do with the manufacturer, just the moron that didn't know what he was doing pulling the handle on the press.

Hopefully, they learned a lesson.

one of the reasons i do not handload or take anyone elses handloads to use. Sometimes this stuff happens.

I love my ruger too why pay 100 bucks more for a S&W?

Can anyone say double charge???? It don`t matter what gun you put them in....somethings gonna give up the ghost. I`ve reloaded some pretty hot (published data) loads for hunting with my SW 29-2, and I`ve never had any issues.

looks like they used too fast of a powder, maybe rifle powder. They where going for a 3500 fps .44spc :D I do hope they are OK.

According to the email, it was a 240 grn .44 magnum double charge. I dont know enough about powders to know if its fast burn, rifle powder or friggin baking soda. However, if they achieved 3500 fps out of a .44 mag, they definately went about it the wrong way.... :D

Nothing said about whoever was handling it when it broke. Hope they're ok to. That'd make one for one hell of a surprise.

The S&W line was me, touting on my ruger :D ... I'm am aware that even they would fail with a big enough charge.

edit: found this on ehowa just now, with a link to go with it. pretty much says the same thing. http://www.ehowa.com/features/explodedrevolver.shtml

Pistol and shotgun powder are much faster burning than rifle powder. Never ever confuse the two.

Is that the reason for higher velocities out of a rifle... powder continues to burn after the bullet leaves the casing.... pushing it out the barrel for the entire length of the barrel??

Unfortunately stupidity will always win over strength.

But to your statement, I love my Ruger Super Redhawk. They are basically overbuilt & withstand a lot of use. I've seen the S&Ws break like this before & it is not that uncommon with someone trying very hot loads.

I hand load 300grain bullets (with proper charges of course) & have no worries with my Ruger.

I have understood too that S&W are not worth the price either :(

I am looking into upgrading my GP100 to a 44 mag at some point but ammo is scarce.

There was also a Glock in 10mm I am looking into as well:D
