Rough Country 6" lift

Evening fellas!

I bought a 2009 LMM crew cab with 78k miles with a 6" RCX lift and 35s on 20s. I'm not so sure I like the RCX lift. What are your guys opinions/experience with these?

Also, if I wanted to drop it down to maybe a 4" lift, what all would that entail? Since the stock torsion supports were cut off and the diff lowered, I'm assuming I'd have to replace the whole front end?

I'm new to lift kits so I don't know much about them at all, but would I have to raise the diff back up if I do that?

Also, there are Bilstein shocks in all four corners. Would smaller blocks make a difference in the back with those shocks?

Check your torsion bolts to see how far they are cranked, They still work exactly the same as they would from the factory without the drop brackets. If they are cranked you should be able to drop the front a 1" maybe 2" by simply backing the bolts out, but you will need to get it re aligned afterwards. Measure your rear blocks and figure out what size blocks you need for the look your going after (level, slight rake, cali lean, etc etc)….. Your shocks "Should" have enough room to compensate but it wouldn't be a bad idea to get a measurement on them first before you do anything to make sure they won't bottom out when dropped a couple inches..

I'll take the lift of ur hands. I have bilsteins for stock level and all the stock parts u need. Shocks have 2k miles on them.

What stock parts exactly will I need? I know the kit requires you cut off the diff mount. Would I not need a new diff housing?

Before you go thru the effort of taking it off, climb under your truck and twist the torsion bolts out. They are 2 18mm bolts. Takes 5 minutes. See how much it lowers your front end, and then match with a corresponding block. (2 or 3 inch block depending on preference) It may be enough for you.

Just make sure you jack the front end up before taking the bolts out.

You can also count your turns with a ratchet to put them back in the same spot if you decide against lowering it.

I forgot to say, a decranked 6" lift that sits at 4" will ride significantly better than a 2" leveling kit.

So before I even mess with lowering it, I've got 35x12.5x20s on it now, how bad will those rub if I lower it 2"? The dude did put wheel spacers on there so there is some offset. They might be 1" spacers?

Most all 4-6" lifts require the diff to be lowered and the mounting tab on the housing gets cut off. If you went with a 4" kit, it'd probably be as easy as swapping parts. If you return it to stock, you'll need a bracket to attach the diff in the right spot or a new diff altogether.

However, IMO, you're getting good direction here...If it were me, this is what I'd do
Jack the front of the truck up and remove those spacers and de-crank your torsion bar bolts, drive it a few miles and let the suspension settle and feel how it rides and see where it sits, see if you like that, then, if you do like it, you'll probably need to do the fender mod to keep the tires from rubbing

Done deal, an hours worth of effort and NO dollars spent:woott:

I have a set of like new 305 55 20s I'd trade too they are 33s

You should be able to drive it around a little bit after you lower it to see if you like it, but it will need to be re-aligned if you keep it lowered.
