hey hows it going i just bought efi live from a local store and quite honestly i have no idea how to even start my own tune. i have a 04 2500hd duramax lb7 and i was wondering if someone could help me in getting a descent tune for my truck which is completely stock and how much power i should crank it up with a stock allison tranny and how much my truck can handle. also looking to see if anyone could step me through on how to actually set up the tune in my truck and where i can get a dsp5. thank you.

Where did you buy EFI Live from 99% of them sell them with at least 1 tune for you.

If not I hope you were not taken for a ride.

I have yet to play with a LB7 but there is lots of other members here that have hope they can help you.

Sadly, now that EFI Live is being carried by some of the big parts distributors just about anybody can get ahold of and resell it - so a company that specializes in Power Stokes and has never seen or used EFI Live or touched a Duramax can now sell you an EFI Live unit and send you on your way. When you start asking questions on how to use it they say good luck, check the forums, ect.

This is exactly why EFI Live should only be sold by companies that can offer the appropriate customer service, the people that have been selling, using, and supporting EFI Live for years now get stuck giving customer support to people who bought it from a random seller that is cluesless.

Sad thing is unless you can get someone to throw you a free tune you are still on the hook for any tunes you'd want a reputable tuner to build. Or on a steep learning curve for figuring it out on your own. I think with our great membership though someone should be able to hook you up.

im in the same boat as you, but by choice. I want to write my own tunes, not script in some prebottled tunes.
I dont paint my truck, and cant align it myself, other than that noone else touches it.
I download tunes from the tune library and compare them to known stock tunes. There are alot of tables that people modify, and some of them im sure are not modified correctly, but it gives you an idea where to look and what to make changes to. The DSP5 only has a few tables under the alternate tunes, im guessing that those tables are the ones to modify on a standard tune to get what you want. Many of the tables are limits so if you push it you have to edit those, some of the tunes ive seen the tables are just maxed out, not sure thats a good idea but I will learn soon enough.

You really are on the hook for a tune for your rig from one of the tuning vendors if you want something specific. The folks at EFI support the product (hardware and software)... how it is used to modify the tuning, they do not tell you how to tune your truck.

A place to start on your own would be here: http://www.duramaxdiesels.com/forum/showthread.php?t=35

Be careful... EFI works great, but you can really break things fast and bad if you do not know what you are doing....I say that, and have never written my own tune, I have always gotten my tuning from someone else.

Do be careful who you let tune your truck, not everyone selling tunes REALLY know what they are doing. I would say you talk to the tuner on the phone, and do a LOT of research to make sure the claims are valid, ask for references from the tuner. Getting a "cheap" tune can cost a lot of $$$$ in hard parts if done incorrectly.

There are reputable vendors on this site. :D

Anywhere from a $100-350 for a single tune or dsp5 set up. But it is well worth the money once u drive it :thumb: Cause its built specifically for what you have done or plan to do with ur truck. Any of the vendors will shoot ya strait on here...and they make really awesome tunes.

I can help you with pulling your stock tune 1st you need the newest copy of the V8.1 and V7.5 software you can get that from here http://forum.efilive.com/showthread.php?8426-Installing-the-V8.1-Software

and

http://forum.efilive.com/showthread.php?8425-Installing-the-V7.5-Software

Once that is done read the updating your flashscans's firmware on the v8.1 page.

Once that is all done and ready now we can look at getting your stock tune.

After that Load up "EFILive Scan And Tune" now plug the scan tool in to the OBD2 port (on Truck) and a USB2 port (on LapTop/NetBook) then click "Calibration Tuning" Or press F4

Now you can "Auto Detect" or Right click and pick the LB7 one.

Then click "Read"

If I was you I would try to return your EFI to the dealer that sold it to you. You can then buy from someone that knows how to tune. Your really missing out on a lot, your asking about buying your first tune that should be free and although the person you buy from cant sit on the phone with you for a whole day getting you started most of these guys will spend a little time and answer your questions and point you in the right direction.

My first thought also. If they didn't even show you how to set it up I wouldn't care if I bought it for $400, it'd go back. I bought mine with no included support and if it weren't for the guys on this forum I'd still be looking for the instruction manual!
