K so i'm planning on putting a cage in my truck soon, would like to buy a kit and weld it in myself if that's possible. Is there any places that sell DIY kits?

Wanna do a full cage right away so if i go into super street in the future i don't have to do it again.


Couple questions for the guys that know more about cages:

Can it be bolted to the frame so i can still lift the cab off? Or does it have to be welded to the frame?
Can you paint a cage or do the welds have to be exposed and not covered in paint?

Step One, order a 2012 (13?) NHRA rulebook.

Mine is welded to the frame in 10 places, but it's overkill for NHRA. I cannot remove the cab.

There are rules for bolt-in, which you need to read carefully.

If I remember correctly, the section on bolt-on is written quite poorly. It almost reads like that's okay, until you read the whole thing and put it together. It basically comes down to you can only bolt on to a unibody car.

They don't say what rev that file is.

Call Alstons Chassis Works and have them bend you up a copy of my cage, it's for an EC. That's as close as you will get for a pre bent cage. I provided them with all the dimensions. If installed right, you could keep the back seat and use bent rear struts over the top of the back seats, following the roof line.Pictures of my cage are here http://www.duramaxdiesels.com/forum/showthread.php?t=36220&page=5 .

X2 on Alston chassis works. But, you cannot bolt it to the frame. You must weld it. If you want the ultimate in fit and finish, use chromoly, and build it in place. My measurements, if you want them, are for a stripped cab, except dash and headliner and front door panels. Dominator race fab in Brockton, mass did an exceptional job with my 8 point cage. He saved the measurements for those who want replicas. Nobody else has made one for a street truck as tucked as mine to my knowledge

Tims cage is about a clean as you can get for a full cage. :thumb:

The A-pilar bars actually follow the a-pillars right down and go through the dash, so you arent banging your knees every time you get in and out. It really is beautifully done and very tight to the body.

I do like to give him shit about cutting through/removing his HVAC dash ducts though. :D :p:

edit: to those smarter than I, how do I embed this? I lost all my photos on my SD card when my Droid updated the other day....and James Dow had some on his FB but it looks like he is no longer on. I'll get some when I get back on my computer
