Roll Cage questions

Ok, I've got a motor out getting machined and built, and am planning on running in the low 11's or better with the truck, so what's everybody doing for roll cages in crew cab trucks...? I have another truck for a daily driver now, so it's not going to be used but on weekends, racing and for events, but I would still like to be able to keep the back seat and use the truck to haul the family around a bit...

Or are you just not putting them in and only making one run at the track...?

I thought about just buying a single cab LBZ, but I have way too much into it to sell, and it's paid for...

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Chad

Your best bet would be to talk to an NHRA safety inspector (the ones that certify chassis). Ask them what is allowable. You can have a bar built so the rear bars follow the roof and go down the C-pillar, but I'm not sure you would never have a problem with it at some tracks.

Yes, you just need a rollbar.

I know there are a few pic's out there of cc's that kept the seats.

Casper had a race seat in the back with a 5-point harness mounted in the middle. Now with the full cage no way my kid's are going in it.

How many seats did you want to keep? I believe casper had individual buckets with a roll bar a few years ago

Well, I saw Nasty Girl a few years ago, and the bar in that truck allowed full use of the factory interior. I am on the fence about making this a full race truck, or something I can still use and enjoy, but I'd like the best of both worlds if possible...

Your truck runs faster than 11.5, what did you do?

I have to agree. Our track's are super strict in CA.

Thanks, Kat. I'll do some searches for crew cab's with bars.

IMO, I wouldn't build a ccsb into a full race truck. You can dump a lot of $ into it then get to the point where you want a little more out of it and wish it was lighter or could be lighter. :2cents:

Yeah, that's where I'm at. I guess I'll look into a roll bar, and build it to where I want it and stop. Then if I decide to go faster, I'll get a single cab and swap parts around then. For now, this is what I have to work with, so it's going to have to work.

I got DQ'd in the NHDRA Super Street finals because I didn't have a bar. I refuse to put a bar in a nice crew cab truck because it would then be a crappy truck to drive with a bar in it and a crappy truck to race because it is so heavy. If I was going to build a dedicated race truck, it wouldn't be something so heavy, and that is the only thing I would put a bar in.

LOL better off going back to racing cars at that point. I thought is was the point to make something heavy fast :spit:
