Well after thinking for a long time, I'm moving forward on strip/street truck to make it legal at the track. I received my estimate today for the roll bar and it should go in the shop in the next couple of weeks. It will be a six point setup, bars through a lexan window and swing outs for both sides...

Nice. I put the clevis & pins on both ends so the door bar can be quickly removed. Makes working on the interior much easier and can make the roll bar liveable for daily use.

I'll put up a pic of my door bars, it's slick and much easier to open/close. May be something to look into.

Have any of you ever been checked for actually using the door bar after a run? I've never seen it happen yet so after initial tech the bars stay in the pit area. Really easy to use:thumb:

I've never been checked after initial tech but.. I paid good money for my cage to be safe in my 6000 lbs brick, I'm goin to fully use it. It would be the 1 time I do that and have an accident and I can imagine the cage wouldn't do much without the door bars in.

I'd be interested in seeing the truck that had everything stripped to the point that you need to remove door bars to remove weight.

They are light, so no, not for weight reduction. I was glad I didnt have them in at Bandimere on our last run, thats for sure. Mine also is thick CM and is not just a 6-point

A truck next to me caught fire at the end of the track and I jumped out with my extinguisher to help him. If it had been more of an emergency, I wouldve felt bad if a door bar held me up. My halo and Apillar bars stiffen the unit up quite a bit. Go shake Robs cage with and without the door bars and see what difference you notice. Then, imagine that 6k lb truck crashing at 140mph and what little that 7lb piece of tube will do for you. Imho the truck cage specs are simply derived from the car world. They arent taking into consideration our potential energy. We build our stuff to the rules to be lighter, it doesnt mean it meets any type of real world engineering standards

What?!? Shaking a cage isn't the best way I've heard of testing cage strength with or without door bars in. That's like saying to jump up and down on a bridge to see if you could drive a loaded semi over it. While I agree that safety specs weren't made with these trucks in mind, further weakening the cage by removing a diagonal bar is crazy. A 7lb piece of steel will do considerably more for you in a crash than it will left in your pit area. It's cool that it worked out this time but you could just as easily be recounting a crash you had, that hurt you a lot worse than it should have, just because you had the door bars out.

Same goes for seat belts. 9 times outta 10 it will save a life but being a firefighter I've seen instances where not having the belt on saved a persons life. There are always ifs and buts in life. My bar will not be removable and it will be 100% legal!!!
