Don't you have to do machine work to fit the main studs

Line hone or something

Yes you should do a line hone. If you want to get technical you should hone cyls for head studs as well. Any time you go with a different TQ spec thing usually distort differently. Yes you could prob get away without a main hone, but while its appart why not do it. Or at least check them with a bore gauge for out of round.

My block need very little line honing, it has studs top and bottom, and was bored with a torque plate from SoCal......the machinist said with everything torqued down, it was barley out, so it was just a touch up.....

I'd hang a voodoo doll on the motor if I thought it would make one of these built motors live longer.:D There is nothing cheap about building one of these right. I can't see cheaping out on something like main studs if it has even a 1% chance of making the engine last longer under high hp.

Sure is, and its injectors not sticks, and turbocharger not charger, and so on and so one. "line hone" is a commonly used slang term, although not everyone knows they are using slang:baby:

usually slang terms are shorthand for something and quicker speak. doing "a line hone" is the same amount of letters as "align hone". When I see trippin, other machinists/builders, etc referring to this procedure, they never use the "slang term". Thats why I was curious.

nvmind, its OT. Carry on.

So then why does GUY recomend them in almost every build at the verry least if not new caps? My caps had evidence of walking when my motor was tore down. I think if your not doing caps and studs at least do studs.

Because he makes money on others ignorance!

Billet caps are not needed. studs are needed!

Actually "line hone" is less letters than "align hone"; and "a line hone" is less letters than "an align hone":joker:

I have dealt with Guy alot, I've called to buy parts from him and had him talk me out of buying them because I didn't need them. I feel he has always steered me write when it came to what I needed and didn't need.

On edit, after seeing your edit: No $h*t he makes money on his parts sales. That's called business - you make money to pay the bills, your employees, and yourself. Sorry you are bitter he didn't want to build or sell you something for free.

Maybe with your aluminum (limited lifespan) rods you don't need billet caps, but they certainly aren't a bad idea. Guy isn't the only one selling billet caps.
