Ok fellas, I need a few suggestions on which way may be best.

My cousin got a job working with NASA, and has to report to work on Monday 12/22, she only found out last week.. So, I offered to help her get some of her stuff there. I will be towing her Ranger on a dolly with the stuff she feels necessary loaded in the beds/cabs of our trucks.

I will be leaving Phx Friday morning (12/19) and expecting to get to the Houston area early Saturday. Unload her chit, grab some shut eye, turn and burn! My bro is flying in from Maui Saturday morning for X-mas so I have to get back pronto!

I don't have the exact add. for where she will be but both mapquest and google have me sticking to I-10, skirting San Antonio.

http://www.mapquest.com/maps?1s=AZ&1z=85042&2s=TX&2z=77058

Google maps enter Zip 85042 for Phx and 77058 for Houston.

Anyone that has made the trip have any suggestions?

THANKS!

~2400 miles in 72hours is possible your looking at ~34 hours of driving time avg 70mph and 40 overall with food, fillups, and restroom breakes...

going there will eb the longest... coming back you will be able to cut alot of time off it running wiht just the truck

set a pace and keep with it... bring a cooler for food and drinks...

I'm trying for a record Adam. :D

I know it's gonna be an iron butt ride, but I only found out last night that she was planning on borrowing my aunt's car(not her mom, different sister), throwing just some clothes & a TV in it, and driving it alone. I know she can do it, but it just doesn't sit well with me. There is a lot of BFE between here and there... She has to go through New Mexico.

Just make sure if you are driving at night on I-10 from about Ft Stockton to Austin you keep a look out for deer. There are a butt load through that area including whitetail and mulees. Other than that, after you pass where I-10 meets I-20 the speed limit is 75 until you get to Kerrville.

Made this drive too many times to count-Stay on I-10-when you get thru FT Stocton start watching for deer. They are stupid and think you vehicle is mommy. The drive from El Paso to Kerville sucks as far as anything to look at except dust and bushes. The great thing is once you get thru Texas Canyon in Arizona the hills are pretty much non existant till Kerville. I 10 from Tucson to Lordsburg is loaded with small to big hills, there are 3 places we always watch out for. Just out of Tucson going to Benson its all down hill-fast- then as you get on the other side of Benson there is one big ass long hill climb. The next place is Texas Canyon on the edge of the state. Texas is flat-everywhere. There are some hills outside of San Antonio as your coming in, couple of large long climbs but not too bad. From there to Houston is pretty much flat. The drive from El Paso to San Antonio is around 500 miles, radio reception sucks unless you like stations from Juraez:D. If you can stop in Ozona just the Circle Bar Truck stop on I 10-there is a small glass walled Muesum. There is a boat in there with the largest engine Ford ever produced for a car. In Texas we call it a section motor because there are 640 acres in a section:eek: its cool to see.

Hills won't be a big deal, it's a light load. No sightseeing, no time! Out and back. :) Good think her and I have a similar taste in music..:D

Do that drive every year from So Cal to Houston, to race motorcycles for the weekend and haul back. Most everything has been said just go around San Antonio if its during the day. If its late night go straight thru.

Its a long drive I hope you have XM radio it sure helps us. Good luck be safe! Your a good cousin!

2 years ago my Uncle and I flew out to AZ to get a truck and drive it back, hahaha that was a trip we were making good time till the fuel pump went out at Pacos. But anyways thats a long dame drive and i thought the worst part of all of it was going threw EL Shit hole. Dont be surprised if you get to go threw a border check, we did.
