I have one on a short bed. The cannister that holds the roll top extends 13" from the front of the bed and is about 11" deep. You can still easily access the tie down hooks at the front of the bed so I'd say tying down a bike wouldn't be a problem. I've had it on my truck for nearly three years and mine doesn't leak. One of the better things I put on the truck. I just ordered another one for my kid's truck.

Just a word on the Retrax cover, I had one on my 97 Dodge dually and I live on dirt roads and my cover broke about 3 times and it was always on the lexan rollup spool. These things not like to be bounched around. Mine did leak not a pure water proof seal.

This time around I'm going to look at a soft top roll up type like the TruXedo's
