63500 mi on the engine? Your iron jumped some with the lead & copper which makes me think bearings maybe? Did you change your oil on the last sample? Have you done or had any work to the engine recently? I would pull another sample, PM with it if you like, sometimes I miss some of these threads.

Yes, the truck only has 63500 miles on it. It is my daily driver but I only have to go 3 miles to and from work and very little driving on the weekends. I have not changed my oil yet since the sample was pulled but I do change the filter every 5000 miles. I do plan to change the oil and filter at 65000. I have not had any work done to the engine, just regular maintenance. I can have another sample pulled. Do you recommend the engine be hot or cold when the sample is pulled this time? The engine was hot last time. Thanks for the help and keep the ideas coming.

P.S. My wife is a writer and we only have one computer so sometimes it takes a while for me to get time on our computer.

Always hot bud... The oil suspends particles in it, so if you let it sit, some of the bigger stuff falls out and into the bottom of the pan.

If thats all the more your driving it just let it go another 1000 miles or so then pull one.

Your iron is not off the charts alarming but it is elevated which makes me suspect a bearing going out. The iron will scrub away on the soft bearing causing elevated copper & a climbing iron count. If your iron drops with the next sample & your copper stays elevated, then maybe a engine oil cooler is the problem.

The reason I asked if any work had been done to the engine recently is because some people will use antiseeze on bolts that are in contact with the engine oil. Well some antiseeze is made primarily from copper & will show high copper on a oil sample

Does your lab test coolant as well?? Most do, anywho might not hurt to have a coolant sample done to see if your coolant is still good, maybe its getting acidic and leaching the oil cooler. Just throwing stuff around...

Probably wouldn't hurt to have the coolant checked. I did drain the coolant system a few years ago to replace the hard line going to the heater core. Put all new coolant in at that time.

I thought it would be best to have the sample pulled while the engine was hot but thought I would ask anyway.

No way I would keep running that oil, but I don't understand why your spending that kind of $$ on oil and running it that long when you drive so little. I would of dumped that oil on the last go around I get nervous when my Cu hits over 100ppm. And its not like you have one spike of Cu this is the second sample now at least it only went up another 100ppm.

I would dump that oil go back to a Dino dump it after 5K and then stick with a Dino and 10K change intervals.

That Iron isn't high at all it only went up 3ppm in 8K miles. Mine is over 20ppm if I put 10K on my oil the universal avg. for a Dmax is 12ppm at a 6K mile sample avg. according to Blackstone at 23K 14ppm is great.
