Hello, my name is Vince, i have been lurking this forum for some time now (even when i owned a powerstroke) and have since purchased a 2008 LMM 3500 dually. Love the truck (when it isnt throwing P0087/reduced engine power). I have recently had this code several times while towing, and have replaced fuel lines, filters, etc with no luck. now the truck vibrates at 40-65 mph. but still tows fine if i keep it manually in 4th gear. As soon as i jump into 5th or 6th, the code throws! no idea, so im guessing its injectors. I have a friend who works at an auto parts store that says he can get me all 8 injectors brand new for $800 BUCKS, I KNOW, SOUNDS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE! the brand is Star and the supplier is standard products. Has anyone here ever used/heard of these before?

you need to log rail pressure and see if it is dropping. Do a quick search on the FPRV (fuel pressure relief valve) and how to shim it.

Hey guys thanks for the input, i did just recently change my trans spin off filter about 500 miles ago. I am going to look into the FPRV valve....but i dont thin that is the cause, seems every research ive done has led me back to the injectors.

It very well could be the injectors returning too much fuel. But LMM injectors rarely shit out. Best thing to do would be to take it somewhere that knows what they are doing and let them put a scanner on it.

Did you get quoted just tips, that would still be a great deal
Not so great if they are junk, you typically get what you pay for
X2, do a bottle test, data log injector flow return rate, shim the rail if you have to, take it to someone legit, a diesel only shop, or a duramax specific tuner if one is available to you
I would not consider the stealership an alternitive either
Dont cheap out on your dmax
Exergy, bosch, ddp, industrial injection- these are the "norm" injector choices round here
i personally have not heard of star, that dont mean chit tho

Took it too a friend of mine that has a fleet service shop, no luck finding anything there. Does anyone know of any great diesel shops in the Phoenix area?

i dont know any that would know of enough to work on a dmax, your best bet is to find someone local with efi live who can scan it, or take it to under ground diesel performance in vegas.

Really? Explain why I see them at least a couple a week with bad injectors? Face it now that we're in the common rail era, anything over 100k without a injector issue just means you must be living right.

Just did the bottle test...ran the crap out of it on the freeway.....bottle was bone dry....so it isn't the fprv.....open to more suggestions....dealership checked the balance rates, here's their report:
client reports while towing sees lamp come on unloaded trailer was in reduced power mode cleared code(p0087) now has vibration advise.
No codes stored. Has 1" in. Vacuum at fuel test port. Found brand new fuel filter installed. Will achieve 26,000 lbs fuel pressure. Injector balance rates all around -1.0 MM. Fuel quality at 37%. Prime fuel system. Holds pressure. Code that was set is fuel rail pressure too low. By replacing fuel filter condition has been repaired. Test drove vehicle, has vibration from front tires.

Ah tony (tdfdiesel) lives a few miles north of there. He may be able to help if you need your truck scanned with efi or anything.
