The problem with the "Keen-Serts" is in order to use those for the 10mm bolts, the cover would need to be drilled out to 14mm; Not sure that's possible without measuring it.

I have a friend that works for Sunnen and knows how to do just about anything to do with machining. I'll have him look at it.

Keenserts are rather large. Caterpillar dealers carry a kit and will sell them. When space is a limiting factor I like to use Rockmount inserts. They are like a keensert but are self tapping & are not as wide.http://www.rockmountnassau.com/ I didn't see them listed on there web site but I am looking at the kit right now, maybe you could call them.

I'm sure these are metric bolts (haven't pulled my converter yet). You may be able to just tap them to a standard bolt if it's close enough, without even drilling the hole out. just a thought.

If you use red locktite:mad: usually you need to heat the bolts to get it to break loose without yanking threads or breaking the bolt. I personally hate the stuff but it does have its place, just not very many places:D.

Got the converter back today... I think before they tell the customer that the threads are damaged and the customer needs to either buy a new front cover for $250 or fix the threads, they should run a thread cleaner through it. I ran a thread cleaner through them and they appear relatively fine; the old bolts run through them fine with very little play (doesn't seem like more than normal). I'm going to have my machinist friend take a peek and see what his opinion is.
