Anything I need to know about removing and installing trans on an LLY. Only one I've removed is an NV4500 so just making sure I don't do something wrong.

get a buddy they are stupid heavy. The hardest thing really is the damn torque converter bolts. Make sure you have about 3 foot of extenstions

Disconnect the battery, Pull the starter, youll have to use some long extensions for the bottom bolt, you can leave the starter sitting on the frame rail. leave your extensions there because there already close to the correct spot to remove the converter bolts. I used a shallow 6 point 15mm then a 6" extension then a swivel and about 2 feet of extension. You can rotate the motor to access the converter bolts by turning the alternator. once youve got those loose its pretty cut and dry. Drain the transfer case and have a pan under the the front of the transfer case because when you remove the t case there will be excess fluid that didnt drain and it will make a mess. Use long extensions and an impact to get the bell housing bolts loose its way easier that way just sit behind the tailshaft, youll have to the trans crossmember out so you can let the tranny hang a bit to get to the top bolts. Definitley have a tranny jack!! I didnt have one when i pulled mine and it dropped right on my arm..hurt like a sob! Good Luck that little guy is freakin heavy!!

Installing the trans is pretty easy once again the converter bolts are the challenging part to get them to stay in the socket dip the bolt head in transgel and they will stay in, once you get the first one started dont tighten it all the way just go on to the next one and once its started then you can snug them to specs from there on out..be sure you go back to the first one tho.

Make sure your not under it when you pull the last bolt:eek:

That's what a transmission jack is for :p

putting a piece of paper in between the bolt and socket, stuffing the bolt in the socket and tearing the paper down so there isn't much sticking out of the edges of the socket works well too. Just need to retrieve the pieces of paper before they fall down in the bellhousing.

Just some useful advice guys lol, you don't have to start one bolt and then put them all in before tightening . If you will turn the flywheel to you see a white sprayed mark on the flywheel next to the bolt hole , this is where your first torque converter bolt should be installed and tightened. Then all others will go in perfect!

Oil drain from turbo , dmax's hardly ever have rearmain seal problems

Its leaking trans fluid out of the transmission bellhousing. We're pretty sure its the seal that the converter slides into. Only other thing it could be is a hole in the converter..... So we get to pull the trans again! :woott:  (BTW blaine is my brother)

So you can torque them all down in a circle the first time?? Or do you still have to tighten opposite bolts like like you would a wheel?

Okay don't know who Blaine is , if it's trans fluid it's most likely the center bolts holding the bell housing to the trans ( they go into the stator ) . They have rubber o-rings under the head if them. Has this tranny been out and apart ??

It's most likely gonna be those bolts I speak of. Pull them back out and clean everything in that area with brake
Cleaner . Then wipe some sort of rtv sealant under the heads and reinstall. Torque them all and you should be golden. And sorry for the confusion also .
