Removing Glow plug module

I'd have to say probably not. The problem is the GMLAN bus is terminated in the ECM & GPCM, so if you where to remove it, the bus would no longer be terminated properly. You'd probably be better off removing the Maxi-Fuse for the GPCM & turning off all glow plug related DTCs in the ECM.

I deleted my glow plugs, egr, and heater grid (and I also wanted to delete the GPCM). Based on the need for the bus circuit(s) I put it back on. I have a recent post concerning this very same issue if you want to see the feedback on this issue. It helped make up my mind.

What are the GMLAN bus wires?
I was going to delete the GPCM but it looks like i may have to just hide it.From what i can tell there are two wires pink & blue going back to the ECM then a hot all the time and a ground. the rest went to the glow plugs or the intake heater and i have deleted both of them.

Pin 43 is the GMLAN- and 44 is GMLAN+. CAN/GMLAN termination is basically a 120 Ohm resistor across the two wires (internal to the modules), so in theory, if you place a resistor across those pins, it SHOULD provide proper bus termination.... IN THEORY. Try at your own risk ;).

Thanks..................... Has anyone tried this.

Is the CAN termination resistor on used on the LLY, LBZ, LMM engine? I took off the glow plug relay on my LB7 and when I pulled the box off, I only see two relays. There are 4 small (18ga) wires going to the box (2 to each relay). Looks like one relay is for the intake heater and the other for the glow plugs.

hmmm i was thinking about this last night. I want to delete my glowplugs and controller. What did you guys use to block the holes in the engine? What size thread are the glowplugs and dos anyone sell a kit of plugs to block all the holes?

Besides a tip breaking off, what is he point of ridding the glowplugs? Only makes sense on a race truck imo

Bringing this back up! I don't drive my truck in winter and have no use for glowplugs so if anyone knows of a delete kit for them or can tall me the thread size so i can just buy plugs to thread into the ports it would be greatly appreciated. Im in the process of installing twin chargers on my truck so while im in there i would like to pull the glowplugs out and block them off. I wont rid of them so i dont ever have to worry about a tip breaking.

Glow plugs effect spray pattern. Is it a concern? Some say "yes" some say "no"

If you live in a warm enough climate......I wouldnt hesitate to rid them

I would get a machine shop to spin some up for you.

Can anyone verify that there is no CAN resister in the LB7's?

Do you drive your truck regularly? Do you ever drive your truck when its below 50-60*? Then yeah, you actually do need glow plugs....

Sure they will start at 20-30* with no glow plugs and extra cranking, but its really hard on the engine. Not to mention the smoke and extra clattering is annoying as hell. Dont remove them unless its a trailered-in race/pulling truck that doesnt get street driven.

I mean its your truck... :)

But if you want to see how it will start, just unplug the power cable to the GPCM (leave the big connector plugged in though for the GMLAN terminating resistor. Like I said, they will still start in cold temps with the glow plugs not there.....but its just easier on the motor if they are in and working
