i am going to pull the engine for headgaskets this week and was going to remove the oil pans to fix some leaks while out. what else should i be checking to repair if needed while out. i am definately going to check for the cam/crank keys being worn to hell, but what else is there?

Hey stacks not sure if you have the head gaskets or not make sure you can get them first if you need your truck, Parts are getting harder to get in with plants having down time.

yeah we can get em, it takes a week or so through gm's parts location system but they do come in. for the record 93,xxx miles on it. i dont have a ton of cash to do rods ect now, just want to prevent having to spend that money in the next year or so. job is unstable to say the least and want to keep it spinning for now. i dont beat the hell out if it, rarely drive it either, but i do you it for business when i use it so it is essential to prevent something if i can while it is out and easy to do.

okay, engines out and heads are off, looks like the numbers 2-4 had the begining stages of coolant leaks internal. some crystalized coolant on the top of the pistons. number 8 had a very wet cylinder head, piston looked normal, but the head area that sits above the cylinder was wet and had what appeared to be a leaky injector from the trail going away from the injector hole.

got the warranty okay for the heads and sending them off to the machine shop for flatness measurements.

I would de-lip the pistons replace that injector and key the cam at minimum.
Might even get the injector tips done up 20-30% and balanced not sure how much money you want to put in it might as well you got the motor out now.
