Reinstalling hood

Ok. I've removed and installed a lot of hoods over the years and found that some are easy to line back up and others just never seem to go back to where they were....even if you mark them befor taking them off. I've never had the hood off my truck and was wondering if anyone has had a problem lining theirs back up when putting it back on. The reason I ask is there is a cruise in the town II live in coming up in about 3 weeks. I want to put a hood stack on for the cruise but I'm not cutting a hole in my hood, and not wasting the money for a junk hood, so I was just going to run no hood. Maybe even redo some piping in polished SS tubing too:D

I have, I'm pretty sure I can get it back, but just wanted to make sure I wasn't opening a can of worms. I forget what it was but one of my friends cars was next to imposable to get it lined back up:mad:

I've helped a buddy with two rebuilders here in the past 2 months. They were both kinda a pain in the ass. Once you get it where you like it, you end up finding another place that is off just a little.

OH NO!!!! Thats was what I'm afraid of. I just get to anal putting them back on. In all reality it was prob as good as new, but you never measure the gaps befor you take it off. If you did you would prob find its off:rofl:

I would do like MikeL said and scribe around them. We would have done the rebuilders that way but we had to replace the hoods alltogether. But in all reality it just took a little time and patience.

I took mine off the first time I pulled the engine because I didn't know about the service position on the hinges. I didn't scribe anything. I just lined up the washers with the obvious places they were before. I got it lined back up with no problems. The scribe method sounds like a sure fire way of getting it back to the same spot. Only thing that would worry me about it is if you live in the rust belt you will open up a spot for rust to form.
