Hey, this DPF stuff is kind of new to me.
Buddy of mine called to say his truck (2008 with stock exhaust and tuning) was showing filter required cleaning then shortly after that is goes to a reduced power message.

I brought over my EFI to check out some codes. I found the following. Appears the DPF filter is filled but the truck doesn't want to regen.

Does the Regen option in EFI DVT force a regen?

I found in searching when the Filter requires cleaning message means go drive it for a good 20 miles or so however not sure what to do once the reduced power message comes on.

Truck appears to require a glow plug as well.

He is now considering a delete but that will require some $$$. Just trying to help him get it running again.

Thx

If he does a lot of light cruising and doesn't get to highway speeds, the truck will never get into regen and build up a lot of grams/soot. Once it hits a certain mass, it won't enter it and will have to be manually regen.

Not Sure

I have been told that if you drive it in tow haul mode even if you aren't towing anything that it will straighten up. The guy told me to do it about once a week. He said that he had success by doing this. We were just talking. I didn't have a problem. It might be worth a try. Good Luck.

That's not a guaranteed way. In theory I guess it'll raise shift points and create a little more heat. But if it's in derate bc of soot accumulation the only thing you can start with is a forced regen

Ahhhh I remember those days. Deleteing that shit was the best mod I did to my LMM. Yeah, you can clean it and what not, but it'll cost you ALOT more money than a EFILive tune and exhaust. Just my $.02

Tried to force regen but doesn't seem to actually regen. Used EFI with DVT to do it. Left it on for a while and never did the numbers change. Truck was warmed up too..

Anything special have to be done to get that to work??

no the idle stayed the same. I did check some other things and I did have control, I could adjust idle or turn on and off engine light. Does engine temp have to be at a particular temp to work?
Maybe there is something actually wrong with the system, I figure the truck has been idling alot and not many good drives to burn it up.

You have anybody you know with a techII or PPE programmer you can borrow? The forced regen in park in unmistakable...

The force regen with efi works I've used it before. The truck needs to be up to temp before you start. Maybe the glow plug code is keeping it from working? Try starting the truck let it warm up then clear the codes then start the regen. The truck will rev up and blow smoke like a mofo so do it outside!

Cool thanks for the info, I'm thinking even though the truck had been running a few maybe it wasn't warm enough, don't remember what temp showed. Has been freekin cold too so hard building heat. :thumb:
