Redhead steering gets a thumbs up

My truck has lived a hard life thus far and at 167k (100k in the 500hp neighborhood) it is in dire need of some love. My steering was shot so I ordered a new box from Redhead. The people at Redhead were very friendly over the phone and got me taken care of and set me up with a return label to save me a few bucks on shipping. The box arrived two days after I ordered it and was clean and painted up nicely with the feed and return lines plugged, oh and it had ZERO slop in it. They warranty them for a year and if you have a problem after that they said to just call the shop to see what they can work out. I put the box with a new moog pitman in today and flushed the steering before and after installation. There is no play in my steering wheel and steering is much tighter than my sloppy OEM unit with 167k on it. Just figured I would throw this out there as I see alot of people ask about aftermarket units.

Best way is to call Redhead directly 1.800.808.1148. Its was around 330 I believe before shipping. Dmaxstore sells them as kryptonite but its a Redhead AND they mark it up. There is a $150 core charge as well no matter where you buy it. Dealing with redhead directly was very easy which is not common. Ill snap some pics of the box tomorrow.

I've read many good things about them. Would it help turn my tires? I know my stock crap absolutely hates my tires. Would this make a huge difference?

I have 35s and it helps a ton. It honestly almost feels weird driving because the steering is so much more responsive. I don't have any steering stuff other than moog pitman and idler and dmaxstore idler pivot. The steering is firm and smooth with no play. My stock steering groaned and hopped while turning 35s.

my gearbox is sloppy over center. You can see the play between input/output with the truck idling and someone wiggling the wheel.

I'll look them up. Need a box for a Ford too if they do those.

May have spoken too soon. Box started leaking like crazy from the output shaft. Going to call Monday to see if they can overnight me another box.

Leaking from the top of the gearbox as in the cover on top or the lines? Or potentially the rear where the steering shaft connects? Either way it will be far less sloppy than your OEM one. New unit should be here tomorrow so I will switch the leaking one out. Bryce at Redhead apologized and took care of it immediately. Awesome customer service.

I am interested in this as well.

Ive put about 1-2k on my truck since lifting it 6" with 35's. I am getting some slop/clunking in the front end. Already fixed the steering shaft and column. When i grab the steering shaft near the box there is some play and clunking noise.

Pitman and ideler are going to get replaced as well. Big$$

DMAXstores "kryptonite" box is just a Redhead box marked up. Buy directly from Redhead for cheaper and has the same warranty. They are standup guys and overnighted me a new box no questions asked. One year unlimited mileage warranty, and even then they said if something weird happens to it after that time frame call the shop. I replaced steering box, pitman, idler, front UCA,s lower balljoints, inner and outer tie rods, and sway bar end links all at once.
