Truck made 540/976 at the wheels, but when the turbo lit at approx 2000RPM it instantly slipped 300+RPM. The trans build is approx 2 years old and has a stock PR spring, so the first thing we will do is fix that and then while its out, upgrade the converter.

Stock CP3, stock injectors, BD SuperMax S364.5, 34.5" (325/60R18) Tires, 3.73 axle ratio.

Having too low of a stall speed is a concern in my climate. With winter temps in the -30s, I usually only run an 80~hp tune, so dropping the stall too low could be a concern.

Converters I'm considering:

Mike, can you chime in?

The stock stall triple that is in there is a little too loose on the big tune for sure...

I'd call Mike on monday and give him all your truck details. He will steer you right I'm sure.

A 300 rpm instant rise when the turbo lights sounds like a TCC total release and not a slip.

I like my ML but as soon as you start pushing the power to it it seems loose and revs up pretty high unless the converter is locked. It does work well for towing but if you plan on running a big tune a lot it might be a little loose. A converter that gets much more aggressive(idk more fluid coupling) once the rpms start slipping past the truck speed is what im looking for.

That has nothing to do with the converter. Get Ben's lock-up box.

When it's time to put the hammer down, I'll usually run it in tow haul, though, I do have my TCM tweaked a little to make T/H more liveable when empty.

Part of the problem up here is that it gets silly cold in the winter (-40F) and the road conditions are horrible at best, so I'll usually switch back to a low hp tune. Low TQ with a low stall converter = total dog.

Right now, this truck is just so driveable, everything works, mid-5sHP, decent fuel economy, it's not worth messing with it.

When our trucks go above 550 hp, the converter does not want to lock the clutches till 4th gear. BT Diesel ( Ben Tyler ) make an electronic box which forces the converter clutches to lock in 2nd.

Is that due to inefficant fuild coupling or why does the allison not like that? i know ben told us why a while back that because of the differences between the two turbine speeds inside the TC at those RPMs (excuse my lack of being specific on what to call the two turbines in the TC), the TCM wont allow lock up till the two speeds better match eachother. Could a converter be built to fix that? or would other side affects happen that would make the truck no fun to drive? I know you have done your homework on this mike so it cant be as simple as id like to think it is :D

Ben is correct with the turbine and output speeds matching the programming numbers. This cannot be fixed in the converter.
