I started to do mine, took it all apart, then got scared and took it to have someone else do it. I decided I need all new bearings anyway and the seals were shot so I let someone who knew what they were doing do it. I was more worried about gettin the right backlash than anything and I dont have a dial indicator.
That being said I set my own backlash when I put the AAM rear end in. I just did it by feel and how it looked with marking grease on the pinon and ring gear. Who knows if its right or not but it works and doesnt howl.

Make sure they pay close attention to where they drill the hole for the wires to come out. The person that did mine drilled one hole, realized it wouldnt work and had to drill another one. He just tapped the first hole and put a plug in it.

Not really. Some people have a hard time gettin the DS axle out. I was having a hard time gettin my ring gear apart from the carrier so I gave up. I suck at getting seals in without them leaking right away anyway so I let someone else do it.
In all honesty, its prolly just like my tranny--its harder to get out of the vehicle than it is to work on.

Me too now. I have been checking on air shocks too, kinda pricey though. :D

I bought a set of The Firestone/Bilstein Airshocks........They would only raise the truck about 1" with the bars down. This was with 150 psi, which is over their rated limit. They didn't work for me. fwiw

Glad to hear that before I spent the money on them. Thanks for the input.:)
