Hey guys I'm looking at doing some pulling. I need to.build a new receiver hitch for.my truck because of my roll pan my old one won't work. I was thinking of using 2x2 1/4" think square tube then brace it with the same size tube and triangulating the braces. Does that sound like it will hold up? Or if any one would mind sharing pics of advice that would be great. Thanks

Bigchevyhitch.com sells one for trucks with roll pans. I made mine with a single piece of 3" tubing across the chassis that bolts where the bumper was. I think it would be too high for a roll pan, but it is as high in the chassis as I can get it. The height works well with 3" drop shackles and no adjustable hitch(the hooking point is even with the bottom of the receiver tube).

i used 4" by 2" rectangle tube (unsure on thickness) and L-brackets to hold it to the stock bumper bolts. But like said above may be too high up for a real roll pan. i just made a rollpan out of sheet metal lol. It's held up great for 2 hooks... then my turbo went out so 2 hooks is all i got on it as of yet! lol

Here is mine. I think I'm going to add something to beef up the mounting points.

Here are some pictures of the hitch I made to go behind my rollpan. I used 3" x 5" x 1/4" angle iron for the sides, 4" x 3/16" square for the cross tube, and a 2" receiver tube I bought from a local hardware/farm store. Since I originally made the hitch, I made a plate to hook the safety chains to and welded it to the bottom of the hitch. It's a pretty bad picture since I was using my cell phone at night, but it should give you a pretty good idea. I need to take the thing out and shoot it with some paint.

Your stock one will work with a roll pan ;). I've been using mine for a few years. un bolt it, move it toward the diff. The front bolt goes where the back bolt was, drill two new holes in the frame for the other two bolts, and two in the spare tire frame. You will need a piece of 2x2 about 6" long to go between the hitch and spare tire frame.

Is your truck a long bed? That's pretty much what I was looking to do but I have 2x2 1/4 box tube and I was going to make a brace off the back to make it a little stronger. I might have to cut my cross member out to make room. I have a short bed. Little tight back there

Rpm I will.have to try my stock hitch to see if.I like it or not. Kind of want everything hiddin tho. Thanks four the pics guys

Judging by the frame in the picture that is a shortbox that JoshH has. Appears that he removed the spare tire carrier crossmember. Pretty much the only way you can get a receiver in those frames up behind the roll pan. Long box is not a problem since the back of the frame is longer.

Yep, like bubba said, my truck is a short bed with the spare tire cross member removed. I had to build a new smaller cross member to mount the driver's side shock to.

Ok I haven't really looked but are the rear spring shackles held on with the same rivets that the cross member is held on by?

3 on each side go through both the shackle hanger and the cross member.

Mine only sticks out about 1.5-2".. Only downfall is when towing a trailer the turning radius is cut in half, and the crank for the front leg is way close to the tailgate... I've got two happy face marks on the tailgate from the plastic crank handle :D I have not had time to make an extended hitch yet.
