Not sure if this is the best place to post it but ill try. My buddies dmax 03 LB7 busted the rear housing, we have been looking at a 01 Lb7 and wondering if the rear housing would work for the 03. If not mike what do you recommend.

If you try and change the extension housing while the trans is still in the truck you will fail. Trans needs to come out and stood on its nose to do it successfully.

and that always happens?? or does that just happen sometimes, i don't mind taking it out but i can only assume when we get it out it will get built lol

How lucky do you feel? Did you read my post above? I didn't say you might fail.

haha its not my truck so not overly worried, but i will recommend the pulling of the tranny, how do we know if it is already out of position?

Here's what happened to a guy on another forum when he changed out the extension housing while the trans was in the truck:

His truck didn't even make it out of the driveway. So, like Mike and Clint said: do you feel lucky?

after seeing that i will pull the tranny next time i do one. only had to do one, and i did it in the truck. 7400km on it and one fluid flush nothing yet... the newer the housing, the bigger the ribs are. put an 07 on an 02 and noticable differance in gussets. dented driveshaft took this one out.

so it is basically all together, drives fine and it was done in the truck, nothing has exploded yet :thumb: found out his driveshaft was dented as well!
