I have a 2002 Chevy Duramax 4x4. U-joint issues caused my Allison rear housing to crack. I have read many threads about this and some people say you can change it in place and others say you need to pull tranny and stand on it's end. I need to know what is the best way for half ass mechanic.

Pull it and stand it on the bel housing. I wouldn't do it any other way. Not worth ruining the trans to do it faster

Pull it for sure. No way of keeping torrington bearing in place while in horizontal position. Get vertical with it.

The brace won't do shit. If your transfer case explodes it will keep the broken pieces suspended. If you have a bad u joint, your tail housing will break no matter what brace you use. The above brace costs the vendor 45.00. You figure out the rest.

Wow didn't know that. Thanks for the info!! Glad I made one and didn't spend the money on it. I was told I would regret not getting one. Funny how info changes

Any other tricks to changing the tail housing. Anything I need to measure or shim?
