Here's the thing I've found James. Any time the cups are disturbed at all, they can leak. Loosening the injector clamps and lifting the injector usually can let the hardened sealant crack around the cup base where it seals, then you can stick a fork in them cause their done.

got ya. Im set on re-doing them. ill headed to home depot tonight to get the goods and yank them out. i cant put them back in though till i get my new injectors and damn if my bank says i cant have them yet. those are my only hold up at this point other than finding a front and rear main seal installer or loading the motor up and takin it to my buddies at midway chevy for them to install them right quick

Take your time to make it right as I'm sure you will (I know patients is at a low right now with this much time down), your almost there. My first built motor took me about a year. The last one took me a month (3 1/2 weeks just figuring out why it spun a main and ruined the crank and block). I didn't want to have the same problem again (almost did anyway I'm sure with the oil over temping issue).

im in no rush. i spent about 10 hours total this weekend on it, most of which was trying to find my cam bolt and cp3 bolts. ive redone a few gasser motors from the ground up so im not completely new to this, just certain thing here and there. double checking has been my biggest thing as well as google images for what bolts go where on things i didnt take pics of :D

I never doubted it. The common rail diesels were just slightly different for me (heftier components, and different looking pistons). I still cant find the spark plugs to change out either. :D

Good luck with it James. Make sure to treat yourself a little on it's maiden voyage.

sorry, didnt mean to create an inuendo so to speak :D definitly different though. it sure as hell amazes me how much power we pump through these things on mostly stock components ya know. i did find a distributor hole though . shes gunna get the wood once its up and running. gotta break into the 12s atleast once in this big limo

btw, i gotta figure out some oil cooler setup once its done. ill be towing damn near 11k to camp verde at the end of may for a wheeling trip and its mostly steep grades up and down for 100 miles. Im not light on the pedal and the cruise will be set at 70-75 unless someone jumps out in front of me. gotta keep this motor together so we will have to chat once this thing is together and running . guess i should jump into the oil cooler thread so i stop derailing my own thread :baby:

Hi All.
I have an 02 lb7 and wanted to be sure about what you guys are talking about so when I get into mine, so my question is,
would the cup-less head modification from the Diesel Technology Source theoretically fix the sealing problem?

See "Injector cupless lb7 heads!!" thread.

What I was asking is if the 2 threads were related and what the best solution is when I get around to it on my own.

lol i have a box full of marked bags but go figure, the one bag i didnt mark i had a senior moment and couldnt remember where they went :D

Well i was asking when/if i should reseal the cups i have even though none of them came out. the general concensous is yes. i dont see why you would have to pull a threaded cup to reseal it since it should not move unless it came loose.

About the cups. If there the threaded kind from Industrial I, the resealing isn't needed as well as the welded in cups. I would do the threaded cups myself (talked to Guy about me doing this years ago but never did it) and this is just my personal preference, not that it would be better than the welded in units.:dontknow:

Also, on removing the cups. DO NOT TWIST THEM to remove them. I galled one doing this and had to ream the cup seal at the bottom and make a new SS cup to fit. DOHH!
