She's getting an Allison 1000 6-Speed and 261HD(if I can find the case) and D60 up front this fall. I have no plans of selling right now.

It is kind of funny how many DMAX guys have a Chummins to play with.

Like I've said before the Cummins is the vag of the diesel world. It's the only piece we want but we'll put up with what it's a part of as long as we can use it. I'm not a Dodge guy at all. I'm really tired of screwing with the 4500 and clutch master cylinder. Trucks that were not offered with manual transmissions are a PITA.

I too am no dodge/mopar guy myself, infact could say i hate them somewhat:angel: BUT the Cummins part is tollerable:D Id love to have a 12v in somthin. nothin fancy/special just as a workhorse i dont have to care about much. Heck, i wouldnt turn my nose at a 1st gen dodge if i found one cheap. I do have my eyes on a nice possible doner Frito-Lay truck with a 4BT in it! Would make a nice oil sipper in somthin light weight:D

looks nice and clean josh. i've seen that build before on another site. the only problem/difference is that you have a steering box, and i have a rack. right now the motor is set right on it.

actually just found another one. it's an 84 300d. he said it was running when parked, he's asking $550!!

might go look at it this weekend.

I have an '02 1500 that my Dad drives. You'll be swapping out that rack, though. The valves won't hold up under the weight.

The Chum started out a light weight work truck project. It gets great mileage right now. I got it because I always liked the body style and I wanted something different and to learn the SAS on. As it stands I'm going to go for the most things never meant to be. Chevy truck, which never was offered with a manual and definitely not a Cummins. Switching to an Allison which was not offered in a light duty 2500. Straight axle Dodge D60, LS interior in a WT, unless I find a RC/SB LS or LT 1500 to do some swapping with. Short-bed would be awesome!

The DMAX will be a SAS D60 next year if all goes well and I'm not in Iraq/Afghanistan.

wonder if they have an upgraded rack? i have another whole 4wd front clip with the box on it but what a pita that would be to swap over.

All this old diesel benz talk makes me want one. :D

Whats real cool, lil ballpark math in my head, by running a blend of 30-35% used motor oil/ATF/etc. ive cut my fuel costs by a 1/3 minimum! My economy has improved, engine is smoother and quieter too! Wouldnt do it to anything newer but this old clacker is ok:rofl: Its my old "dont care, takes me anywhere, daily driver" so its all good! And i have a $50 parts engine if i need anything;) Ive ordered some goodies for making a used oil filling/filtering station and ill run a higher % when thats done! I just installed my K26 turbo off my other motor, and it sounds cool so ive been driving it harded and thus hurting my econ but its still better than straight #2 econ:eek: This turbo is smaller, better bottom end (city driving) than the larger T3 (highway power) i removed, and i have a 45min highway drive everyday, results seem backwards but im not complainin:angel: Its a blast:D

huh??? :confused: Never offered with a manual? You could get a manual in ANY GM pickup, gas, diesel, 1/2 ton, 1 ton, whatever...up until 2006.

Are you sure Ben? 2000 model year Chevrolet Silverado 2500 light duty. I'm fairly certain the 5 speed was offered in the 2000 2500C/K, but not in the Silverado. I could be wrong but there some that were not offered with a manual transmission; 1500HD being another one. I'm not talking about CPO.

You could get the 5 speed in the new bocy silverado's with the 4.3 for sure and I beleive the 4.8.

I agree. He's pretty sharp. I started looking that up after I read his post. I don't want to call my dealership connection(cousin) to be proven a tool so I'll stick with Ben saying I'm FOS.

In the GMT-800 half ton pickups from 1999-2007 (classic) you could get a 5-speed with the 4.3 V6 and 4.8 V8. 5.3/manual was not available

In the GMT-800 3/4 and 1 ton gassers (and the 99-00 2500 light duty) from 1999-2007 (classic) you could get a 5-speed manual with the 6.0 and obviously the ZF6 with the 8.1

In the GMT-800 3/4 and 1 ton diesels from 2001-2006 you could get the ZF6.

The only config I am aware of that you could not get a manual with (or maybe you could, but ive never seen one) was the 2001-2006 1500HD....but the 1500HD was an oddball in itself and you dont see many of them. Im not even sure the purpose of making them.

They (the 2500 light duty and 1500HD, same things) IMO actually did have a purpose from 1999-2000, before the GMT-800 HD's were released...GM didnt have the GMT-800 HD platform ready yet, the only thing that was heavier than the half ton platform and available in the parts bin at the 1999 launch of the GMT-800's was the 2500 Suburban platform (basically a 1500 frame except with bigger axles, hydroboost brakes, 8 lug wheels, a 4L80, and 6.0). GM probably figured "well what are we going to do from 1999 to 2001 when the -800 HD's are ready? Surely no one looking for a heavier-than-half-ton truck in the 1999-2000 time frame is going to want to buy a truck that looks 10 years old (because to get a true 2500HD or 3500 in 1999-2000, you had to buy a GMT-400 truck, the C/K body style) when we already have the new half ton silverados out..."

So as a bandaid/temp fix to cater to those people who wanted a "new" looking truck, but needed something heavier duty than the half ton, they took the -800 half ton silverado body, dropped it onto a 2500 Suburban platform, and called it a "2500" with an 8,600lb GVWR.

Then when the GMT-800 [true] HD's came out in 2001 and the GMT-400 HD truck production shutdown, the need for the 2500 light duty literally disappeared overnight. Why GM kept making it, I have no idea. But they didnt want people confusing it with the new "true" HD pickup that came out in 2001, so in 2001 they renamed the "wannabe" from "2500" to "1500HD".

The 1500HD (from 2001-2006) was only offered in one configuration, crew cab, short bed, 4x4, autotrac electronic xfer case, 4L80, 6.0.

Like I said, I have no idea why they kept the 1500HD, maybe for licensing stuff, so consumers could have a pickup truck that was a little more capable than a typical half ton, but still only had an 8,600lb GVWR to circumvent being classified as a "commercial" vehicle...which might have caused problems for some people in some states...thats the ONLY reason I can think of for keeping the 2500LD/1500HD around after the introduction of the GMT-800 HD's in 2001...
