yea i might as well while i have the chance.

OT I see a shortbed, 73-87 4x4, looks pretty clean. Maybe an 85?

anyway looks like you are movein right along. It's gonna be cool

yea it's a K-5. the rear body mounts and rear floor are completely rotted out. i'm cutting it all out and rebuilding a new rear floor for it.

well as fate would have it, i went to dry fit the motor last night and the damn cylinder for the hoist sprung a leak. but now i do get to buy an air powered one. i did get to clean the shop up and start to mount some of the front suspension though. i need to cut and plate the lower arms still though.

as for bags right now i have 2600lb conti bags but i will be running slams up front and F9000s out back.

little update. stopped at the shop for a little bit yesterday before i went fishing. finally got a new air ram for the hoist (****ing sweet btw) so i could drop the motor in. first thing i noticed is i'm not gonna be running AC :(. but thankfully it wont be that hard to fab up some motor mounts as it's pretty close to the factory mounts. if i can get some spare hands tomorrow i'm gonna try and drop the cab on to see where i'm at with the motor placement. it's a little tight on the ds but it'll work.

Lookin good bud! I see your Benz in the one photo:D

Can you elaborate on what your doin to the control arms, im curious! I love makin my own stuff, modded my stock shackles and made them 4" drops:D

Id not mind having an old 12V to play with! Im not a dodge guy at all but i can handle a Cummins. Better in a chevy but a 1st gen dodge for fun is ok too. There was a 1st gen dodge at the lawrence dyno thet made like 500hp +- nothin too special, still VE pumped;)

thanks. actually the benz is my buddies, i'm on the hunt for one myself now.

i need to cut pockets into the bottom of the arms for the bags to lay in. i might flip the uppers upsidedown and left to right to help reduce camber and bj angles, but i'm still up in the air about that.

gotta get some gas for the welder so i can fab up some motor mounts and a trans x member.

Ah, Ok makes sense now;)

Keep your eyes peeled for Benz's. Theres plenty out there for a decent price. Check craiglist for them. One most exellent benz forum and place theres all ways cars for sale is http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/index.php

Im on there, tons of info for them! Just look it over good, there tough SOB's and are hard to hurt but fixing one up can be an undertaking somtimes. We have a saying, "Theres no mercedes more expensive than a cheap mercedes" :D

I got mine for free, i put prolly $1200 in it and it its a great driver now, only need a part or two as far as drivability goes. Looks will take more. But you just hafta find the right ones, i kick myself in the ass for selling an 84 300D that i had before my truck, was in very, very good shape, bought for $2400 iirc but even one not quite as sharp is still a nice car and less money! Theres a club on the forum called the cheap wagon club, and diesel benz wagon bought and driveable, or fixed and drivable for $1000 or less, and theres a good number of members. Lemme know if ya need and Benz assistance:D Have a few M-B nuts in my area constantly dealing them around!

nice! my other buddy just picked up a 77 300d for $300 bucks the other day. sob! i just found another 77 for $300 bucks that i might give a call on. screw the looks when you're driving around for free! only thing is this one is a 4cyl, so it'd be a turd. i need to take some pics of the wagon for you to gawk at, it's a work of art to say the least lol.

Hahahaha, ya, 77 and 4cyl iirc is a 190D, not a speed machine by any means. The 240D's are pretty dang slow, the auto trans ones are the worst, I had a 4spd 240D for a bit. Slow but real good mpg's. My buddie got a half decent 240 for $300, and i have a turbo and intercooler for it:D We like to joke around and say, "I hear by sentence you to a 240D" Still good cars though, i just need a lil more GO, when i hammer it! Really, mine does pretty dang good, it runs like a bat outta hell if i put my cut delivery valves in, just idles like shit:D I just poured 3 gal of old diesel oil an 3 gal of leftover kerosene in it tonight......Hahaha, screw the oil companys:angel:

damn right screw them!! i called about that 77, it's a 240d auto:mad:, but for $300 bucks screw it. i think i might go sat and get it. my truck is fine to drive but i'll never get it done if i drive it everyday. besides i'd rather drive for free, even if it's slow as balls doing it. i'm actually driving half free right now. i'm running a 75/25 mix right now, veg>off road. getting pretty good mileage so far and it smells awesome:D

Why Cant you run A/C? Issues with the dryer? Otherwise it doesent take much to fab up a bracket to relocate the A/C

well i'll be able to see about the dryer once i get the cab on. i think it'll be really close though. i'm not to concerned A/C anyway though. i'm more concerned about running an engine driven compressor.

The dryer in mine fit. It's kind of close to the exhaust manifold. The high mount for the AC compressor is something I'm still after. If you have the idler arm in the stock location the Dodge compressor won't fit where it goes. I have lots of pics of my CHUM. Screamin Seeman Offroad did the swap and fabbed the mounts. We have very similar frames.

post some pics if you could. lol screamin seeman:rofl:

the big difference here is that your frame is 8" tall and mine is about 4.5", also the body is dropped 2" around the frame. those 2 tings alone cause some severe clearance issues. i'm hoping once again to try and drop the cab on this weekend (hard to find people that wanna help when it's 100* in the shop) so i can see if i will need to cut into the firewall and wiper cowl. i already know i'm going to have to cut up the floor for the trans and driveshaft.

I love that truck more and more everytime I see it, Im kicking myself for not buying it. Thats the perfect DD and I would drive that in the winter instead of letting my Duramax rot in the salt. Let me know if you ever put that thing up for sale. If I dont build another Chevy Cummins I might still be intersetd in your truck.
