Radiator replacement, transmission cooler line issues

hey everyone,

I replaced the radiator on my 2011 3500hd lml last night and now I'm having trouble getting the transmission cooler lines to stay in the radiator. The lines go into the fitting and the clips go over but they don't sit down low enough for the plastic cover to go back over. I thought they were all the way in and the lower hose blew off twice now. Any help will be much appreciated.

Are you installing the clips first then pushing the line in, or line first then the clip? Try putting the clip in first so you can see better if it's installed correctly

The clips are in already, the line is literally like a fraction of an inch away from seating properly and being able to put the plastic cap over it

as mentioned above. you install the clip first then push the line in until it snaps in and the clip locks it in place

That's exactly what I've done, the plastic cover won't go over the clip and the lower line blows off when I start the truck

The retainer clips are in but not completely seated, I can’t get them to go in any more.

Either the clip isn't in the correct spot, or you need to try harder. Rock the line back and forth, they have to be spot on to go in all the way. The plastic cover has nothing to do with the line blowing out

I've pushed them as far as they will go, even tapped them with a rubber mallet to see if they would go a little more

The clips must have the proper orientation as I remember it. Remove one of the lines and work with the clip only on the radiator fitting. Rotate the clip until the little 'feet' fall into the slots of the fitting. Once you have the correct orientation, push the pipe into the fitting and yu will hear the clip snap as the connection is made. Then the caps will fit quite easily.

Usually a good ole spit, push, grunt and twist then it’ll work into in the hole.

The clips came on the new radiator and I never took them off, I pushed the lines on just like everyone said but they seem to be just a hair off

Are you sure you have the right radiator? I wonder if some come with smaller trans cooler lines. Do you have a micrometer? Maybe you could even just inspect the line for damage from try to force them together.

with the line removed does the black plastic cover fit?

have you inspected the o ring/ seal inside to see if it's properly in place?

Could be you accidentally doubled up the orings?

The clips will be spread apart too far. Remove them, squeeze them together and reinstall them being careful not spread them again. It may take a few trys
