radials vs slicks 16s or 17s

So i got a new daily that needs tires. It has the same tires as the race truck so I'm probably gonna swap them and get radials or slicks for the race truck and was looking for suggestions on what sizes and radial vs slick. I have 16 inch pyos and 17 inch lmm wheels so I can get either size tires I don't care what wheels I run. This truck will probably not see the street anymore so id be open to slicks which I hear are better for manual transmission stuff. Just open to experiences and size discussion.

Pro comp 1069 16x10 wheels with 30x14 M&H cheaters is what I say 54lbs a corner. But since you have pyos 275/55r16 m&h radials, 48lbs a corner. Those 17" LMM wheels are heavy IMO. Not sure since you are a zf6 but with the 30x14 I was 32-3300RPMs at 113mph through the traps and with the 28" 275 radials I was at 35-3600 RPMs at 112mph.

I'm worried about rpms as I think I'm up there at 111 mph , and I'm shooting for a low 11. I'm thinking will be 118 to low 120 mph based off the previous manual trans record. But to keep the stock bottom as happy as possible I'm gonna keep it between 3k and 4400 rpms as that's marks advice. So something that size might work out.

Launching 3rd gear with a s475 a smaller tire might be a good choice to keep it alive off the line also. Don't know what it will do on a clutch dump with a big single and lots of grip.

I've ran both I mentioned. For a truck trapping under 115mph the 275s work well and hooked damn good but i loved the 30x14 compared to the radials for traction and the extra height. When I trapped 123 I was on the 30x14s and I think Rs were somewhere around 3800-3900 IIRC.

Does anyone make a 16 inch drag radial or slick close to 30 inches tall that will suck onto a skinny pyo?
All of them are way to wide at 30 inches tall from what I can find. Wasn't wanting to buy wheels if i didn't have to.

No, nothing. 275/55/16 M&H's are about it for PY0s.

I checked into the possibility of widening my PY0s years ago, but got nowhere with it.

I found a hoosier radial that's a 295/55/16, that comes out to a 28.8/11.6/16 looking like my best option so far. That's the size guy had that set the record.

I've had 305 mud tires on a pyo and daily drove it, not sure what you can get away with sucking down a drag radial on a 6.5 wide pyo though lol.

I know you can rip 35's down a drag strip long enough to break everything and they'll go 143 down the interstate, just watch, rear studs like to break around 135.

No way in hell I would put a 295 3 ply that's rated under 1500lbs on a 6.5 wide pyo and run 115mph, why risk it? Raceline make some great light quality wheels for ~$120 You'll have to lower the pressure to get full contact on a pyo anyways as it'll have the rounded effect so reality you might as well run the 275s I ran the 275/55 m&h on pyos for awhile and worked great and finally went to a light 8" wheel. More contact and more psi made me feel a lot better going 110+ mph, plus the truck didn't float as bad, not only that with better contact my 60s were better even with higher pressures. Pro comp 1069s aren't that expensive plus with the 30x14s you'll be set for the future. Didn't mean to come off as a d?ck but I just want people to be safe :thumb:

True story, broke 3 rear studs on my LMM at 23k miles with brand new stt's. I thought the belts busted when it started to shimmy, 7k miles later when I went for a rotation, 3 lug nuts were laying in the center cap. **** that. And two was already broke where the dumb ****s used the impact to tighten the nuts.

I put a whole new GM hub on it.

That's what i was worried about them being really soft. Not having air bags or a cage It wouldn't hurt to be on the safe side. I'll probably just do the 275s then, I wanna see how this thing is gonna act before I buy wheels and tires.

You sure that isnt a 295/50/16? I couldnt find a -55- ratio anywhere.

No way Id run wider tires than the 275s on PY0s for racing. Decent lighter, wider wheels arent all that expensive anymore.
