ADP is right off exit 23 off of 96w good group of guys and looking and talking to them I feel I'm in good hands he has 3 duramaxs himself I can post contact info for his shop if you guys r interested

2 or 3 people 1 being the owner of ADP he said it won't last along time but I should have no problem for a year or so no garretee but he don't dout it he seen them last from a couple months to 2 years pending how aggressive u drive it

There is no way a stock Allison will hold even one pass with a legitimate 600 hp to the ground. The fact that the shop working on your truck told you it will makes me more than just a little nervous. You might get by running 600 hp through a stock Allison if you only use it for sled pulling (low range and limited shifting and traction makes life a lot easier), but that and possibly some dyno runs is the only possible scenario where I could see a stock Allison holding 600 hp. Any street use would instantly kill it. Ask me how I know.

Anything more than 90hp over is a no.

So who told you a stock Allison can hold 600 hp?

Hell I had a local wrecker owner here, tell me the stock Allison can handle 900hp. Said his truck made 800hp with propane injection on a stock turbo......

Then told me his truck pulled 80,000lbs up a 7% grade..... Gawd.


Smoked his ass with 500 REAL horsepower.

Not to be the devils advocate, but I did run 500hp on a stock 6sp, for 6 months. Never limped. Ran many 8.50s and a few 8.30s. Also ran well over 120mph several times. All on 33 inch tires.

Don't know what that trans looked like, when suncoast got it.

6 speeds seem to handle a fair amount of power better than 5 speeds, but they will not hold 600 hp. I tried it once, and the first time I did a boosted launch, I fried the C1 clutch pack. 5 speeds do ok as long as you don't let them shift into or out of OD under power, but they are all on borrowed time.

Everyone seems to have this covered, but here's my 2 pennies...

Stock 5 speed trans are good for about 350rwhp. Some live in the high 300's, but usually not for very long. If you want 650hp, put one of the Danville stage 2 turbos on it.

Anything over 600hp and the motor will be on borrowed time. If you want it to live tune if for 500-550 and be happy. If you push the 600+ range you will shorten your rods.

Talk to one of the good tranny builders on here. Mike L has a great kit for what you are looking for. If you have limped your tranny a few times I can assure you that your tranny clutches look something close to what is pictured in this thread. Been there done that on a quadzilla tuner on the 120 tune in my 02 GMC. The overdrive shift is the weak link as Josh said. My 07 truck dynoed about 564 hp on ATP's dyno last year and it has a lightly built tranny, small set of twins, 4" exhaust and a lift pump. Other than that it's stock. Idaho Rob built me 5 tunes and I have them on a DSP-5 switch. Stock tune, two tow tunes, and two hot tunes. I hardly ever drive it in anything but the stock or tow tunes. The hot tunes eat the tires too quick.
