I'm taking the 7 year old to San Bernardino so he can try out a Quarter Midget, $25 10 lap "Arrive and Drive".
Anyone else have a kid that races these or the karts?
I like the Quarter Midget program but with the 2 closes tracks being 3 and 4 hrs away it would be difficult to do. We have a local kart track, so odds are if he wants, we will be "karting".

Both would be a blast for 'em, but if this is something that is going to be developed, start 'em in karts. They learn to develop instinctive feel for mechanical grip of the vehicle better in karts.

Suspensions can be learned later, after they get a feel for what "the edge" feels like.

When are you going? I sure the hamsters would like to try it also :D

This sunday...if they ever call me back...
Scroll down, looking on the right until you see Arrive and Drive.

...and the karts actually turn right sometimes...
Karts are a lot closer and cost less, but it will cost me more because I have a feeling that I will end-up getting one too...:D especially when I start getting the urge to "feel the edge"
It's up to him how far it goes.
Thanks

Check out these Kart's www.rboutlaws.com Kinda a cross between both. I started out in Karts and moved into 360 Non wing Sprint cars. Karts are deff. a way to get started. I Like the caged Karts for Kids, due to safety. They even have a class for you! How about pulling the front end off the ground while coming off the corner (on dirt):D.

I don't know if this is the type of kart racing your looking for, but its closer. They have one now in 1000 Oaks and one in Slymar.

Weeeell, took him to the local kart track for their first race this season. He said he still wants to do it. I checked around and found him a (very) used kart. Top-Kart Cadet with a blue printed Animal engine (that's what they run in his age group/class).
Kart needs a lot of work but as you can see in the second pic, he's working on it!

A Pic from day 2 at the track. No pic's from day 1...'cause I spend most of the time pullin' him out of the weeds...
He's having fun but is still way too slow to race.
