If you tow - go with the steel (more $$, but worth it). I think Fred is charging $300?? Plenty of guys have stated they tow with the aluminum, but personally would feel safer with steel.

Otherwise you should be fine with aluminum so long as they are torqued properly. May depend on who you buy them from. There some BS going on the DP a while ago (don't remember specifics), but someone lost a wheel running aluminum spacers off ebay and some cause was attributed to weak lugs in the spacers IIRC.

if you wheel fell off it would scratch those fancy new flares.

They dont look too shabby. But definately need something different to fill the wheel wells, I thought you had some big rims and tires back in the day?? Maybe im wrong, or just not caught up.

yeah for a while I had some sweet eagle 114 chrome wheels and 285 BFG's. It looked really good IMO, I loved those things...but unfortunately I needed money more than I needed a truck with bling rimz.

Ive just been running PYO's and 265 Terra Grapplers for the past couple years; they are completely destroyed from winter and stuff but whatever

The one's I got from Fred are aluminum and 1.5" thick. I run them on the Duramax and gasser. The Duramax towed another CrewCab Duramax out to Michigan with no issue, and both trucks tow a 45,000+ lb transfer sled with no issues.

I believe the quality of the aluminum stock and stud components make a huge difference. There is definitely some garbage out there. Fred makes an awesome product.

Can't wait to see this thing finished Ben. I think it will look pretty slick.

That's good to know. The last time I spoke with Fred - he convinced me that steel was the way to go with towing - didn't even know he made them in aluminum.

does anyone know where I can get the light sockets besides the dealer? Dealer wants like 15 dollars a piece for them.

no, they arent standard 194 bulb sockets.

there is a dmax dually on campus that GM gave to the school for biodiesel research. It was a test mule for a very early LBZ (the truck itself is a 2003), so it cant be registered or driven on the road. I was working on the biodiesel project and working on the truck for a while but the project kinda slowed down.

anyway...

I really want to just take the light sockets from that dually...the truck is never driven at night and it cant be driven on the road, so it doesnt need those lights. But unfortunately Im too good a person to swipe those next time I work on the truck. Maybe ill get someone with a worse conscience than me to take them. :D

Looks good. I think spacers would make it look pretty good for temporary till you get a wheel/tire combo for it.

I think it looks real good with those fenders

As far as the lights/sockets, I needed to put one in my quadrasteer Yukon and had no luck anywhere but the dealer. Only place I didn't try to hard at was a junk yard.

some people may not like it, but I think it looks really cool. Still need to get spacers, then it will be perfect. :)

Everyone got a kick out of my front license plate too, because ALL the cars down there run fake euro plates to be "authentic", I thought it would be clever to get one that says DÜRAMAX with the german U thing. :D

ben

That is quite funny as everyone in Europe is dying to get a short license plate, like the ones you have.
