Pump Rub Question

So lately I've started to noticed a thud coming from under the cab of my truck when i take off from a red light or stop sign.
It does not do it if i take off from a stop nice and easy.
If I take off giving it alot of throttle it will make a repeated thud 3-4 times one after the other.
I took a look at my transfer case and noticed the Rear Output Shaft Seal is leaking and probably has been for some time now, there was a line of old oil going from one side of the truck to the other from it slinging it out.
I opened the fluid fill bolt and fluid started pouring out so i'm guessing it's good.

I have been reading up on pump rub and am having trouble understanding it.
If my transfer case still has fluid then i dont have pump rub?
or does it not start leaking until pump has already been rubbing and caused a hole?
There is no other leaks on my transfer case other than the Rear Output Shaft seal.

Any and all information would be appreciated.

Check and see how much play is in the slip yoke when you move it up and down. There is a bushing inside the case which commonly wears and will cause the output shaft seal to leak. It should have very little movement.

I will in the morning but I guess my main question is what could be causing the thud that i experience when taking off?

The bushing can make noise but you'll usually hear it when putting the truck in gear.

Most likely its that slip yoke sticking on the splines. As suggested, grease those splines real good, replace the seal and hopefully you'll be good to go.

I bought cv joint grease. Got to looking at it and the carrier bearing is beat to shit so I guessing that could be the cause. I'm trying to post pictures but tinypic.com is not working. There's a lot of play in the carrier bearing it definitely needs replaced

How big of a deal do you think it would be to change that sucker out?
Doesn't seem to bad. I'm about to goto oreillys and see if they have one

There is 2 different sizes at oreilleys
A 1.5 ID and a 1.3 ID
Is there a way a can tell without pulling it off?

If you have an air hammer and cut off wheel removing the old carried isn't bad.. I've not found a way to tell which one so I always get both and take back the one I don't use.

Not a bad idea. Hopefully will get around to swapping it and the output seal Monday or Tuesday. Saturday I ended up just changing out my lower power steering hose and man it was a pain in the ass.
