Pulling tune vs. Drag racing tune

I am going to be hooking to the sled again on Saturday. I have always used the same tune I have used when I drag race. Should I do anything different to the tune for when I am sled pulling vs. when I am drag racing?

Is it just minor changes or is it a whole new animal?

Thanks

I tend to build tunes that can be used for everything. I make them as smooth and drivable as I can - which helps for daily driving, spooling at the line, and pulling - and at WOT you should be tuning for all you can on sled or race tunes regardless.

On some of the loosest tracks you can over power the track depending on tires and pressure. I try to get the trucks to pull down in rpm a little at the end rather than spinning out super hard. 90% of the time tune for all out. :)

I like to launch as hard as possible.....some people don't and with soft tracks that is not in your best interest.

Iv'e been watching a few pullers pull lately. Seems like a hard launch get the front of the sled in the air and for that first bit it seems like your just pulling a heavy trailer...

Yeah what JOHNBOY said, I pulled a little tiny sled like that last year it was a joke! I pulled it to the end of the track then turned left and went to the horse track finally just shut it down because the flag man was running, screaming and waiving his red flag! We gave that sled driver a hell of a ride, My buddy has a Dodge and when he left the sled came up over 2ft! lol:rofl: needless to say he (sled driver) was pissed:happy2:

Just hold the brake spool her up until it starts to over come the brake and let her out slowley, then let er eat

Spool it up. If you come out and blow them off, you can always let out before 75 ft and hook it again. With a WS truck I almost always spool until I can't hold it any longer.

As far as tuning, I try to throw as much fuel as I can at it while still keeping good pressure where as in a drag tune I am a little more concerned with EGTs. I also bump the torque tables more. Also if you raise shift points make sure your tune is not limiting fuel in that area.

I could care less how it drives on the street or how it shifts at part throttle. My LLY tune that Powermax built me drives like crap but I don't know many LLY tunes that can run with it on a sled.

I never spooled my stock turbo. Just put it to the mat when i got the green flag.First gear is low enough it would roll out and hit second and take off. I did try it one time and it fell flat on its face. Now with my 4094 i spool up to 8psi and let her eat.
