pulling the motor

I am ready to pull the motor, I think, I undid the 6 15mm bolts that are holding the motor mounts down and unbolted the trans and the 6 converter bolts but it wont separate? do I have to loosen the trans from its crossmember? am I forgetting something??

Make sure you have all the bell housing bolts out should be 9, most people forget the top one in the middle under the turbo.

got it loose, but f'd up my radiator... now I have the radiator out and the fan blade loose but how do I get the clutch off?

Did you not pull the cooling stack to pull the motor?

Best way to get the fan off the pulley is to take an air hammer with a pointed chisel and go to town on the edge of the nut. Righty tighty, lefty loosey.

nope I totally spaced it, will the motor come out with the fan clutch on?

by coolant stack do you mean just the rad? I was going to pull the IC too but I couldnt get it out from underneath the airbox mount.

You want it to look like this, the top core support unbolts from under the lip behind the head lights

To answer your other question, yes, you can pull the engine with the fan on.

Got ya Chad, you coming to the track this weekend? Hopefully it will be a little cooler, what's the forecast say for Spokane over the weekend? The fuel tank went in pretty easy. Got it in, put about 2 gallons in it and drove to the station and put in another 54. Shows you can run the tank pretty dry. Rob recalilibrated the fuel gauge so it will read correctly and Rus and I did the lbZ mouth piece mod. Made a whole new truck out of it. Great tow truck. Thanks again for hooking me up with the tank. Jeff good luck on the engine tear down. Agree, might as well throw in some rods and pistons while you are at it, it's only money.

Ya, its safe to say that I wont be racing.....

I dont really have the $$ to be doing what I am let alone do a full build, so new HG's and ARP studs will be all this anchor is gonna get. I might slap on a new waterpump cause I have heard those start to go right around my current mileage (106K). Anything else anyone can think of to do that is cheap (read FREE)??

It is supposed to be in the mid 90's this weekend last I saw so bring your shorts!!

Looks like Saturday is going to be hot, 96° for a high.... Glad that tank worked out for you, would have been a waste to let it go to a used car lot with that on there. At least someone can get some use out of it...and glad I don't have to pay for all that fuel

yup, trans is staying, studs are in the garage waiting to go in, I am going to start the dissassembly tonight.
