Pulling RPM's

What do you guys allow your RPM's to climb to during a pull? I ordered EFI from McRat and got a 150hP tune. It works good for the sled pulling, but on a dry track I see 4200 RPM. Reading on other forums, seems like 4000 is the limit to ensure that the truck will be powering itself home that night :). What limit would you guys use?

Thanks
Chris

Fill us in a little more about your truck, like what turbo, tranny, tires stuff like that. Also what gear are you pulling in? I have seen 4200 a couple times in 3rd gear

My truck is an '05 CCSB LLY. The only engine mods are EGR Blocker. No CAT and a 5" MBRP system with the "muffler". I have traction bars, Cognito braces & sleeves. I use blocks for pulling and lower torsion bars. I run 265/75-16 E's that are more of a street tread and about 80% worn out. Truck weighs about 7200# with me in it. The tranny is stock. Turbo is stock.

I pull in 4-LO Tow/Haul and put the selector in 3rd. I let the tranny shift.

Last night I played around with EFILive and set the rev limiter to 4200 RPM. I tested the rev limiter at 2000 RPM just to see what happens. And it "bounces" off the rev limiter. Is there a way to limit it, maybe cutting fuel, without "bouncing" off the limiter? I don't know enough about EFILive to cut the fuel.

Thanks
Chris

Hello Pops, Your truck sure sound:D pretty good last night. That was a pretty good street class at New Lexington. I have seen anywhere from 3800 to 4500 depends on tires and track. Jeff

Mine has bouched as high as 4800RPM.

Its supposed to be limited to 4500RPM.

And pulling I barely see 4000RPM because I dont have it fueling hard that high.

Johnboy used to leave the line in his ZF-6 at 4500 and he didn't have any issues (I think Evan Davis does also). I've seen 4300 on a slick track but generally sit around 3800.

I agree with Pops - put some better tires on first.
