Hey guys. have to say 2 months ago I bought a 08 LMM. Its the best truck I ever bought, but this DPF system. I dont like it. Every fill up of fuel I notice when its regin by my tack and just know there goes the mpg. Whats a good programer out there for better mpg. Right now Im getting about 16mpg city and 19-20mpg on hwy.

Is mpg is all you are wanting out of the truck or are you planning on getting the horsepower bug in the future that will help us tell you which programmer will be the best bang for your buck

I would like better mpg and also have the more power. I was thinking about the ppe hot+2 , DPF delete?

Dont get me wrong ppe hot + 2 is a great tuner but for the money you can have a diesel shop install EFI live on a dsp5 switch and custom tune you a good mpg tune and then some horsepower tunes as well as deleting the DPF cheaper than you can buy a ppe hot + 2

I can't speak for the LMM, but on my LB7, my $$ would go for EFI w/a DSP5. :thumb:

I went the Banks route the first time (they make a nice system), it was OK (I am sure other "modules" are similar), but you get more flexibility with EFI...and when you have to make a change, you can tune your truck to match your components (in my case it was a new mod CP3...thanks Pat!).

If you do get bit by the HP bug, EFI is a MUCH better place to start, it will save you big bucks. There are a number of vendors on this site that can set you up with a good set of tunes.

FWIW, I get much better mileage now than when I started...as long as I can keep from lighting off the HTT! :D

You have about as much mileage as you are going to get. If 16- 19/20 is right. With my dpf and Bully Dog 19/21 empty was my best and 10/12 hauling 14,000lb is what I got. Now I did a turbo back mbrp 4" and efi and it is still the same, no gain in mpg, but it runs and breaths alot better and will smoke the tires till half way threw 3rd. :D. Now if you have inspections andvtake off your cat and dpf you will not pass.

Another vote here for EFI know that drill from buying canned tuners. PPE is nice and will do your deletes but not as detailed and nice as EFI. Spend the money once on EFI and you don't have a pile of tuners on your bench from learning curve. Skilled tuner can help you so much.

I vote for EFI also. a few of my friends have bought tunes from some of the tuners around, my favorite of all of them would be Idaho Rob's tunes plus I havent ever heard any stories of poor service and he seems really helpful. but I also know a guy running Tony's mooshine tuning and is really happy with that.

Thanks alot guys. I guess that I will look into EFI. For X-Mas my wife bought me a K&N filter, going to have to return that now too. I hear nothing but bad news about them. In all my past Chevys (gas) I put them in and not problems. On this site all I hear is that they are bad....Is this true?

I havnt had any problem on my LBZ with a modded stock airbox with the k and n filter I made 621 rear wheel horsepower dunbar approved with it with just a aftermarket turbo and 60% over injectors

I've had my Banks Ram Air with Superscoop for over 30,000 miles without a problem. The people that have had the worst problems more than likely over oiled the filter when they cleaned it. Just do light coats. I also use electronics cleaner for the MAF sensor. No CEL or anything.
