I have been speaking with Pat on the phone with trying to resolve some issues. I was advised by another source that I needed to upgrade to the Black Box software in order to get its whole functionality out of the EFIlive unit. For my application this is not true. Unfortunately I have already started the process so I must continue.

I have the bootblock version 2.5.04 date: Oct 16, 2007

Firmware version 2.5.16 on the V2 Apr 14, 2008

When I try to connect to the emc I get an error 31/nocable

Anybody have this problem?

Perhaps not the answer you want to hear, and I do not know if it's related.
For now, to all the readers, DO NOT UPDATE to BB Logging Beta until we get clarification on this. The early releases do not work for Dmax BB Logging, so unless you have a gasoline engine, leave all the BB logging versions alone.

Posted this morning:

Earlier this week a problem in the V2.5.16(0414) firmware was uncovered. Actually it effects all V2.05.xx firmware versions. It had to do with the C compiler producing incorrect code and causing CPU registers to be overwritten.

The results of overwriting CPU register values will cause as many different and seemingly unrelated bugs as you can imagine. A new firmware version will be released as soon as I get confirmation from the compiler manufacturer of the workaround I intend to use.

Please don't post anymore bugs related to any firmware earlier than 2.05.17 (which will be the next release). There is every possibility that any bug you encounter is caused by the problem described above.

Once the new firmware is available, please retry any functions/operations that have failed with earlier versions. Be sure to reformat all file systems (internal and SD card) before trying again with the new firmware.

Regards
Paul

Is there any chance you could attach the firmware that you are using and revert to that?

If EFILive_Firmware.EXE works with your V2, then you are OK.

If you EFILive_Firmware.exe says "Not in DeadPoll Mode", even after you have the alternating flashing orange lights, then you are stuck. This means you are have the Black Box software loaded, and it cannot be reversed.

You might try using the EFILive Explorer and loading the March 18 (0318) file and see if that helps? I have this on my computer and it does flash LLY's and LBZ's just fine even with BlackBox software loaded.

Hopefully there is a fix soon. Sorry for the inconvenience.

I just installed the most recent bbl update the other day and have had no issues with the install other than that dead poll thing that pat just mentioned. The software is not recognizing that the v2 is in dead poll mode. i can still use the flashing and scanning functions just fine though. any thoughts?

can this cause any unforeseen problems?
will my v2 have to be sent in for a manual reset now for any future updates?

and i thought i was all set :p

Is there any chance you could attach these files that are in the READ ME FIRST PDF..

If FlashScan has boot block V2.05.04 please perform these steps:
1. Program firmware V2.05.16(0326).
2. Program boot block V2.05.07(0412).
3. Program firmware V2.05.16(0412).

My dates differ from these?

This is my problem...do not know what happened but under the Start menu->All Programs->EFILive V7.5->Update FlashScan V2 Firmware..it will not communicate with the flashscan. I guess I will have to return it. No racing for me this weekend!!

How to program the V2.04.71 firmware
IMPORTANT: You only need to perform this firmware upgrade if you have not already
upgraded to V2.04.71 firmware. You must install firmware V2.04.71 before you can upgrade
FlashScan’s boot block to V2.05.06.
1. Connect FlashScan to your PC while holding down the Ctrl button on FlashScan's
keypad. That will put FlashScan into dead-poll mode ready for reprogramming. (To exit
dead-poll mode without reprogramming, disconnect and reconnect FlashScan without
holding down the Ctrl button.)
2. Run the FlashScan Firmware Programmer from Windows:
Start menu->All Programs->EFILive V7.5->Update FlashScan V2 Firmware.
3. Load the FlashScan Firmware File:
\Program Files\EFILive\V7.5\FSProg_V2_4_71.ffw
4. Click the [Program] button and wait for FlashScan to restart.
While the firmware is being programmed a "percentage complete" counter will be
displayed from 0% to 100%. Sometimes that counter may "freeze", however the
reprogramming process will continue. It should be complete in less than 20 seconds. A
dialog box indicating success will be displayed when the programming is complete.

Do your screens match this?

Go to the Tuning tool.

HELP>ABOUT

Next go to EFILive_Explorer > FIRMWARE

I think that is your problem.

You updated the V2 Firmware, but you didn't update the software to 7.5.4?

Hard for me to tell with Beta stuff. But 7.5.4 with March 18 Firmware can flash my white truck right now, today running Vista on a very unstable computer.

Thanks for the input guys. I have followed the exact Pdf instructions several time and always come to a road block when I try to update the V2 firmware. It will not communicate with the V2. Also I can not perform the bootblock upgrade. When I hit F4-F1-F4 it takes me to a password change page. I have tried to follow this with now sucess.

"How to perform the initial update to boot block to V2.05.07
Select the FlashScan Upgrade Boot-block menu option using the FlashScan keypad
sequence: F4->F1->F4. You will be asked to confirm the upgrade process a number of times
as per the following screen captures.
Before the upgrade process can be completed, FlashScan will test the flash memory chip to
ensure it is operating correctly. If the flash memory test fails you will not be able to upgrade
your FlashScan unit. In that case, please return it to the place of purchase for repair.
BOOTBLOCK UPGRADE

Press [Yes]

The upgrade process will take about 5 seconds to complete, then the screen backlight will be
turned off (the text will still be visible) and the two orange LEDs will flash alternately to indicate
dead-poll mode. Dead-poll mode means that FlashScan is waiting to be programmed with new
firmware.
After programming the V2.05.07 boot block, a license update screen will appear
IMPORTANT: The License upgrade will occur automatically (and only) the first time
FlashScan is booted after the new 2.05.07 boot block is programmed.
The license structures stored inside the device need to be upgraded. FlashScan will check the
license structures each time it re-boots. If it detects the old style license structures it will
upgrade the license structures. In that case, you will be prompted with the following
messages:
ATTENTION

been upgraded.
License will

Press [Ok]
