Had a 01 Allison 5 speed rebuilt by a transmission shop I commonly use. Used suncoast gmax 5-3 kit and ats 5 star convertor, and a new nsbu switch. Put back in the truck an took for a test drive. All seemed well until trans got warm. The threw a p1711 code an wouldn't shift up or down out of 4th gear. Cleared the code an let the truck set for a few hours an drove again. Did same thing. Cleared an tried to drive again, this time it didn't wanna shift from 4th to 5th. Could feel it holding the truck back. Now getting p1711, p1713, p1723, p0847...

Got the valve body out to check the e shift valve and to replace the in pan harness an pressure switch. Seems as all 3 valves in the top half of the valve body are sticking. The builder pretty well told me I'm on my own. An that I need to buy a vb if there all sticking.

Problem is; there is crap running through the system because of the build. I have never seen anything but an E shift valve stuck. Something is wrong here.

I have a good used 02 valve body I'd sell you if you end up going that route after diagnosing what caused the original issue.

I use a Hot Flush machine that uses hot atf and air to clean the coolers and heat exchangers. The machine is pricey but it works. $5,500.00.
I think every trans shop should have one.

Anyway to do it without the machine ? I'm not a transmission shop so be hard to justify spending that much for 10-15 trans jobs a year

Jasper told us 2 cans of cooler kleen flushed both ways plus fluid pumped through and if its a thermostatic cooler either remove the thermostat for flushing or replace the cooler.

Only problem with this, is that with no hot fluid going through it you cant all the debris out. Especially if you have a converter fail.

There is no thermostat in the cooler. The trans cooler is designed to expand under heat and retract cold. Without using hot fluid for an extended period of time, you will never clean it as the debris will stay in the cooler.

So if you trash a converter a new cooler is recommended too?
