so after changing drain lines to a little simpler setup my truck is still leaking oil... the flange was torqued to GM spec 15 ft lbs, and it is not leaking from there. So looks like the rear main seal. How much of a PITA is it to change?

drop trans, pull flexplate, change seal, use GM seal driver tool, reinstall flexplate, reinstall trans, buy another case of beer....I couldn't accurately tell you how long it will take you to do. If it was me, I'd get half done and the portable garage would get blown across the yard by a tornado and one of the metal poles would impale me as it scratched up the side of my truck.... then lighting would strike and the truck would burn to the ground the day after the insurance was up...

Thats sucks and is definatly a PITA.. Do you have access to a lift? Make sure to read up on the TRQ specs/procedure for the flywheel....

Pull trans flexplate. Get new rear main seal use some red loctite on the metal inner ring to crank on install keeps it from leaking past there. Also you will need new flywheel bolts and eat alot of wheaties.

Make sure that's it before you start tearing it apart. Only this worse then fixing a problem is fixing something that didn't need fixed.

Are you sure its not a valvecover or oil pan? My oil pan was seeping and presented like a rear main, but I resealed the pan for grins and sure enough that solved it. Couple bucks in sealer and brake clean.

hahaha I love how some people consider a little oil leak "unlucky"

If my truck even moves under its own power, I consider myself "super lucky" :D

nick before you do that MAKE SURE that your oil feed in the valley is not leaking. i had a coolant leak there that presented like a cracked rear cover because of the drain hole right near the oil drain port.

(only say this because of the troubles you had with it leaking when you first put the s475 on)

Rear main leaks on our engines are fairly rare.

Turbo oil leaks are REALLY common.

I made sure when I put the turbo back on that the flange was torqued to 15 ft lbs which is GM spec and I used a new gasket... I must be the worst mechanic if it is still leaking there LOL
