So after asking and going with the Predator tuner (I Know EFI Someday), I also took everyones advice and bought a 4 inch exhaust (Diamond Eye) plus a EGT gauge (Cobalt) to go with it. I hope to get it in over the weekend. Is there a certain distance from the turbo or any preferable spot to put the EGT sensor? Thanks

Two things. One, (and maybe I am a total idiot) but if you drill a hole in the exhaust where the video shows, dont you run the risk of the metal fileings going in the turbo? Two. I installed it where autometer recommeded (about 6 inches back from where the turbo back exhaust bolts together) What EGT should be my max/normal? I have the 40hp tow tune in the truck along with a SS 4 inch turbo back. Thanks to Fermanator for the quiet exhaust recommedation!

If you leave the engine running when drilling/tapping it blows the metal towards you. Im not sure on what your egts should be. I know someone who had theirs post turbo and would see 800-1000 degrees and when they switched to the manifold it was actually 1800 degrees.

For post turbo keep it under 950 or so. I know my stock LB7 tune would hit 825-850, my current tune has never broke 1000, but I ran a PPE level 6 and it would hit 1200+ post turbo pretty quick. I need to drill my manifold, but space is TIGHT on mine.

When drilling/tapping,U can also put grease on the end of the drill bit/tap and it will catch the metal chips, i have done 3 of my trucks, and tons of customers trucks this way, for an accurate reading u always want the probe in the manifold.

Like others said and like they show in the video you have the truck running when you drill and tap the hole. The grease way also works.

I am not sure why Autometer recommends that spot as it will not give proper reading. Maybe in a Gasser setup it works there but not so much in Diesels. As when ever you see people take about EGT it is from the manifold so you could never really compare with yours.

It can work where you put it but I would not trust any or the reading from it.
