Pre Loaded ECM. Now or later?

So after some research & thinking im 90% sure I wanna go with a custom preloaded ECM most likely for Duramax Tuner. I really dont have the confidence or have the want to play/use with all that EFI Live has to offer. But I have some questions.

Right now my truck is completely stock, my future wish list is as follows.....Lift pump, full EGR delete with grid heater, PPE manifolds & up pipes, 4" straight pipe exhaust, down pipe, 4-6" lift kit, 33" tires.

So here's my questions....

1. Should I wait until all these are installed before I purchase an ECM?
2. Will it hurt anything to get an ECM with these mod's, and run it while i work on getting/installing everything piece by piece?
3. The lift kit & tires will prob be quite awhile down the road. How do I upgrade the tunes later on if needed (speedo recalabration) if I don't get those values loaded now?

Any input's greatly appreciated. Thankx ya'll

Even if you dont do your own tuning I would still get the hardware. You'll be able to install tuning that a tuner emails you. This way if you need to do a tire size correction you can do it yourself or your tuner can make the changes then email them to you for you to load. Also you can clear codes with it and log your tunes if you need to. If you buy an ECM you'll have to ship it back to the tuner for every change.

I have a autocal from ATP and can do everything besides actual tuning. It's great if you just want to be able to read/clear codes and data log. Then when you need to change something your tuner can email you the new file to load. I would either go with a V2 or autocal. Wish I just spent the money on the V2 looking back though

Using a pre loaded ecm is not conducive to modding your truck, however if this is something you really want to do i would do an egr delete and deal with the lights on the dash, a 4" exhaust and probably level the truck and get your tires, then get the ecm.
Manifolds and uppies are a sweet piece, but not really a necessity, and wont affect a tune one way or another, a lift pump would take precedence over manifold and uppipes every day of the week(i would get the lift pump first, keep those injectors good!) I would throw a good set of gauges on your list as a necessity, and then i would get the lift.

Running a dsp5 really is the way to go and the auto cal is pretty idiot proof(i use them) and can be updated for future calibrations via e-mail.
Dont commit yourself to a single tuned ecm, :2cents:

I have a tuned ECM by Tony with DSP5 I love it set it and gorget it. I don't want to mess around with v2's and auto cal's because I don't have time for that.

Using a v2 or autocal is no harder than using any other hand held programer out there. It does make things more convenient and you dont need to know how to design a tune to be capable of operating one.

Me too! :roflmao:

X3 :roflmao:

I have nothing against people that would rather replace their ECM's over an auto cal or V2 but I personally like being able to look tuning and as others have said read and clear codes. You can also use the V2 for injector balance rates, CP3 command pressure, turn off cylinders to signal out injectors, and the list goes on. It's also not that hard to flash a tune on your pickup. Thankfully MANY people have taken the time in doing good write ups to help others; alot of those write ups are on duramaxforum:eek::D

I Also don't like removing my driver side mud flap, fender wheel, and making sure I don't screw up/wreck my ECM connections ends.

Just my $0.02

I just prefer to drive down the road have Tony flash it and be done with it. I don't need another scan tool. If yall live in the in the fly over states then the V2 or the autocal maybe your only option. DF thread that's funny chit
