Allison 5sp: Power steering oil cooler/pump selection

So, I'm on the hunt for a power steering oil cooler. Anyone have PN and brand of the one they used and had good luck with it? My PS pump is gonna need replaced and was also wondering if anyone has had good luck going to "upgraded" brands. I know XDP sells one that is supposed to be an upgrade. Any input is welcomed. Thanks

GM has discontinued GM part # 10385584 for their stock cooler.

It was overpriced and small anyway.

You don't need anything special, an inexpensive universal trans cooler kit will work just fine. Like THIS

Plumbed into the Low Pressure gearbox fluid return line, bypassing to the front mount location & returning back to the pump reservoir tube.

Spray some black paint on it, hide the shine thru the grille.
Best $30 mod you'll ever do. :thumb:

I used to be able to research stuff on Tapatalk app and now when I do, it's not displaying any search results, kinda odd. I think the PSC was the one I was looking at. Thanks for the reply.

So after replacing PS pump with a PSC pump, my steering is still making an annoyingly loud whining sound lock to lock. System was flushed and new fluid purged through...steering gearbox maybe?

Could be. Could be the pump too. I’ve seen quite a few psc pumps be bad right out of the box.

How did you bleed the air when the new pump was installed?

I used clear hose and purged through the hydroboost outlet

This attachment will give you a pretty good way to bleed your steering. Covers more than bleeding, so look for that part, Page 4.
