It may be possible for it to be a bad water pump but i highly doubt it. But since you already have all the coolant out of the truck it may be worth changing out the pump if it has a bunch of miles on it or has never been changed yet.
Your guess is as good as mine. Gone to the coolant gods for all I know. All I can say is I put a LOT of coolant through mine and so did my in law with no puddles or signs of coolant anywhere just a slight smell of it every so often that's it. I guess maybe my head gaskets healed themselves while I changed the water pump cause they lived through a lot of abuse after that. My stock gaskets and bolts lasted over two years at 648/1160 or better with a turbo and dual fuelers. The only reason it came apart then was 1 cracked piston and low compression from 8 short rods.
And to be perfectly honest the only thing I did then was hone that one cyl put a used piston back in it with 1 new gasket, put the stock charger back on threw the engine in another truck and still drive that truck every day bent rods and all and it still doesn't use any coolant. :thumb:
haha i like this guy ^^^^^^^^^^ thats what id do too, but the guy thats gonna tune my truck is worried, i say tune my truck now if it pops it pops, ill worry bout it then b/c ill know the problem :spit:
At least I know I'm not alone. I didn't have the time or money to do much else with it...
I really don't know a good way to test head gaskets on these. When my wife was still a tech at the dealership she had one come in that had problems overheating and losing coolant and she put the leakdown tester on it for over 48 hours and it never leaked a bit. That's been a couple years now so maybe they've come up with a better way by now but with most compressors only capable of 120-160psi its hard to get enough pressure in them to leak unless it's really bad.
