Because the increased torque of the main studs "distorts" the bore through the block and main caps wich could cause premature main bearing failure.

I would not reccomend doing that.

Not doing the main studs in that case, thanks!

We have done more lly's than anything over the last 2 years they are all popped in the same spot . Some turned up some not . All have been passenger rear , looks like the sealing ring is being hit by the piston but I assume it only gets sucked in when it fails .The last one we did heads were only warped .004 . I suspect possibly a torque issue .
So have most of the heads been fine to reuse or needed some work due to warping? Mine has been blown for 2 years/30000 miles. Just pushes out some coolant if you fill it all the way and work it. Leave it low and normal driving and it's fine except for the hose being hard. Not putting coolant in oil or oil in coolant that I see, evidently just pressure into the coolant. But will that mean when torn down it may have gotten coolant in that cylinder and scored it?

All have been fine to reuse just minor surfacing . Worst one we did needed 15 thousandths taken off while this isn't normal for most if anyone .

I did what you are doing for a long time. Turned into a leaking heater core and blown coolant hoses. Do the headgasket(s) sooner than later IMHO.

I have a problem with my coolant system. It has spewed out of the over flow tube a couple times but says low coolant level before and after I add it. And the tack has went from cold to red to cold to its normal running temp. Any ideas.

Ok here is a list of gaskets you will need.

Tstat gaskets
fuel line seals for ficm
intake bridge rubber seals
lower valve cover gaskets. (no need to seperate the upper halves)
egr cooler to pipe gasket
egr valve to intake. 2 seals needed
upper intake to lower intake tube gasket
intake tube to bridge orings
tube of sealer for each intake manifold to head
exhaust manifold to head just in case they go to the machine shop
manifold to up pipe gaskets
head gaskets
injector orings and copper washers

I think that is it for head gaskets. For water pump if you go gm/delco they come with the needed seals, the only one I would buy seperate is the pump housing to oil cooler tube. The kit comes with a paper one and the izuzu one is metal.

Cool! sorry for the dig up but upon reading this four page thread looks like this one is the most useful information that i can use. i just bought delco for my water pump and looks like i wont be having regrets. when i type delco on the search tab of this forum everybody recommends delco. ;)

you can also try NAPA, Victor Reinz but Fel-Pro . In many cases you'll get the OEM gaskets in there, whether it's head gaskets, exhaust flange gaskets, etc etc. Well Delco is also good according to THEM. I have not tried it yet but you are right most members here use it and looks like i will be switching brands. lol :thumb:

It seems like a lot of HG issues are starting to pop up on the LLY LBZ trucks. Anyone know why?

shitty gaskets:mad: I have replaced my gaskets in my lly twice in the last 60k

both times the gaskets where differen???t.....Atleast the ones in Canada.

last time i ordered them i got the last of 3 sets in canada and they where waiting for new ones.( should of waited i geuss )

Also, Stock vvt and stock tuning has lots of drive press.

Kinda pisses me off that my lb7 sees 100 psi of boost and the head gaskets where perfec,t but the lly sees 28 and eats gaskets.

that is caused from air passing the temp sensor.

Found my passenger side rear head gasket leaking this morning. I only have 70,000 miles on the truck and run a small tow tune in it.

Should this have caused them to fail? I would not think this would overboost the motor. Any thoughts?

I wouldn't think so,but stock trucks have pushed HG's before. Just seems weird it pushed it to the outside of the head.

The more I read of the problems the LLY's had with blown head gaskets the madder I get. chev has to know they have a problem with them but yet refuse to do anythying about it. from 04-mid 06 they used cheap gaskets that have been blowing. I just changed mine and up graded head bolts to the tune of 6500. Now I have a leak in the tranny apparrantly this is also common sunk too much into it already to get rid of it.

The head gaskets have went out on many years of trucks not just the mid 04 to 06 been since 01 they got better around 06. Every post about head gaskets you post the same thing you just did yours its been 3 months it sucks that they blow but the same post that Gm has to know and they refuse to fix it gets old to read. The only reason Gm will not fix alot of issue is from alot of owners that have tried pushing repairs pass them that was caused by adding power and it hurts everyone else because know Gm is just watching there own backs.

There is a few guys that have not played and have broken parts. Its the guys that have played and did not want to pay thats made it hard on everyone else that has tried to get legit work done which does suck.
