lotsofmiles, i had the same thing on my car...turned out the pads sit a little loose in there. one of my mechanic friends said he uses a little silicone on the back of the outer pad. worked like a charm.
not saying that's what your problem is, but look into it.

Its probably the left second body mount popping, the one right under the drivers floor board most of the time you can fell a thump! the new body style silverados are bad about it. I havnt seen one of the new steering shafts pop like the old 07 classics did! just my opinion take it and have the dealer fix it under warranty... your truck doesnt have stepsides does it? if it does make sure the mount isnt rubbing the frame where the mount bolts to the body mount!:D

you have to pull that left body mount under the drivers floorboard up and fill it with silicone, let it sit out for about 45 minutes and reinstall... you have to unbolt the whole left side in order to get the top part of the bushing out jack up the body somewhat and take it out. gm has us doing this to all the new body style trucks that have that popping noise.
