Under normal acceleration? Or are you in the throttle pretty good and let off in 3rd causing it to go straight to OD?

I don't have a scanner - a friend hooked up a scanner and returned some codes but he said the codes said it wasn't communicating correctly - does that make sense? He did say that at one time there was a program because he could tell that the wires had been spliced and retaped - I'm not the original owner.

Most scanners cant read TCM codes, you'll get a P700 code which just says you have TCM related codes. You probably need to find someone local with EFI live to check codes or even better someone with a Tech 2. I'm not a trans mechanic but I've had and seen enough trans problems over the years I may can help. The west coast guys will be awake soon so maybe someone else will chime in with more ideas.

Thanks - I'm far from a mechanic and am looking for some insight as to if anyone else has seen this happen - it always seems that I encounter the unusual when it comes to engine problems...ha

I see, I would start by checking the connections on the ECM and the bale connectors under the hood. Unplug them and plug back in just to make sure you don't have a pin not making contact from corrosion or dirt or debris. I don't know how anything could get in the connectors there sealed up pretty good. I had an 03 do some crazy stuff once it ended up being the connections with my Banks tuner, it pugged in line with the bale connectors.

There probably related, I would think the TCM gets an RPM reference from somewhere for shift points. The guage probably gets its reference from the same place. Sounds like you have an electrical issue? where are the smart people? I don't know much:eek:

That I do not know. Hopefully someone else will chime in. I always thought every code set off the check engine light. But if you have a short of a bad connection I would think anything is possible.
