hey guys. this is kind of long but i really need some help so please read.

i just purchased a 05 silverado a couple weeks ago. a few days after i bought it, it started smoking only when sitting in gear. as soon as i would hit the gas it would stop. when it would do it, it would feel like its running rough then it would smoke white. as soon as i take off from the light it starts running smooth again and stops smoking. its very random. sometimes it goes days without doing it. i also get a very strong smell of diesel when it starts doing it.

here is what i have done so far.

i took it to the chevy dealership and had them flash it to stock. (i wanted to make sure it didn't have a bad tune or something)
i also had them run a injector balance test. the guy told me all the injectors were out of range except cyl 2 and 7. he said anything about 1.8 +or- was bad???????
they were reading anywhere between 2 all the way up to 9. this was after he flashed it back to stock and after driving it about 200 miles. i don't remember what was +or- or which injectors were doing what.

it definitely had a tune on it because the drivablity was completely different after they flashed it back to stock

so i bought an edge juice with attitude tuner so i could try to do the injector balance test myself.

i ran an injector blanace test with it and here are the results
injector 1- 9.3
injector 2- 0.3
injector 3- -0.7
injector 4- -1.5
injector 5- -3.3
injector 6- -3.1
injector 7- -0.1
injector 8- -0.9

i also had 4 codes but not CEL
P0303- cyl 3 misfire
P0401- egr flow insufficient
P0404- egr control circuit performance
P1229- injector 3 output

this was all done after driving it for only about 10 mins on power level one

Def sounds like a wiring problem. Check the harness and pick all the injector plugs.
x2 on the ice pick

Then, once you know the plugs are making contact, do the balance rate test again. If #1 doesn't improve, it is probably done for. The rest look OK on the balance rate, though #5 might be pushing it, depending on if the balance rate was done in neutral or drive.

Sounds like you have an egr blocker plate in there and now your going to have codes because you wiped the ecm.It also sounds like your injectors are shot and once in a while you have 1 sticking open (smoking) be careful driveing like that can melt the piston and cause some serious damage. You can get some of the upper cylinder cleaner from GM it does an awesome job trying to bring the injectors back into spec but i think your prolonging the outcome.

What is this pick trick you speak of? I unplugged cup 1 injector a plugged it back in. It didn't change anything. Balance test was done in park.

I am having this same exact issue. Same truck year and model. Did you ever figure out what the problem is?
