Ok , i know a lot of my posts are dealing with the 0087 code.

Can someone please Explain this code and discuss how to get it solved?

I Dont understand how a " LOW RAIL PRESSURE " " pops" the FPRV Valve?????

I would think Too much pressure would pop the FPRV.

So How does Shimming the Valve suppossed to not let it " POP" 0087 codes?

Thanks for the Info.

IIRC, it occurs when you're commanding high pressure and your system can't supply it...There is a pressure spike that blows through the FPRV causing rail pressure to drop and the light to come on...

A lift pump or shim kit usually fixes the problem, so does racing with more than 1/4 tank...

i shimmed my fprv .105 and i either need a lift pump, gotta change my fuel filter, or gotta shim it more! cause i threw a 0087 the other night pulling.

Most LBZs don't need to be shimmed. You should be able to tell from a log if the valve is blowing open. You will usually see a pressure spike and then the actual rail pressure will drop to somewhere around 12k PSI while actual is still up around 26k. I shimmed my FPRV because it wasn't done, and I was having problems holding rail pressure. It did nothing to help my rail pressure. I didn't do a bottle test and had never seen a log of a blown FPRV, but now that I have seen what happens when the valve is blown open, I don't believe I ever had a problem.

This is from an LLY, but it looks the same on an LBZ. You will see that when I lift off the accelerator pedal the rail pressure spikes to over 26k PSI. This blows the FPRV open and you will see that the desired goes up when I get back on the throttle, but the actual never goes over about 12k.

My guess would be a lift pump :D

What I find strange as I have never thrown one in Wendy. I'm not shimmed and most times race with less then 1/4 tank.

I Never ever popped an 0087 before shimming either.

I wish i would have left it alone. but it " seemed" like the thing to do.

Now im going to try a race valve and see if it seals better.

Have you done a bottle test?

Yes , i did a while a go and it passsed,

I know, dont need a race valve.:(

Just thinking in my head i dont have that FPRV sealed right but i guess it is.

I need to check my Lift pump PSI , At the Filter Housing , Right???

What PSI should i be seeing at the housing?? 8-12 ??

What is the easiest way to check lift pump PSI ??

Thanks Josh

If you have a gauge you can make an adapter to screw it into the bleed screw hole in the filter housing. You can also buy a gauge from Kennedy Diesel that fits the test port next to the alternator. What you need to do is have the gauge hooked up while you're getting on it and see if it holds positive pressure. If it holds positive pressure and passes the bottle test, you're probably just running too much pulse for your truck to maintain pressure.

What kind of lift pumps do you have?

TTS twin lift pumps. Bought them over 2 years ago.

They seem to work fine, but i have never monitored PSI from them

Been thinking of a getting an Airdog / extra filter.

What makes you believe they are working fine if you haven't monitored pressure?

Thats a good question.:)

I know when i cut power to them the truck doesnt feel as strong. Plus i laid under the truck and could " hear/ feel " they are working.

But as for knowing what they are providing the CP3 with i dont know.

I guess i need to get some kind of gauge on !

Did you use those screw together butt connectors that come with the kit? If so, I would suggest you look at your connections to both pumps. I had one of the wires corrode through at one of those connections. You may have one pump running and one not. That's what happened to me.

Josh, thanks again for the help.

I have both pumps wired together so both run all the time. I didnt like the way the instructions said to wire them.

i didnt use the cheesey connections that came with them;) :D

Sounds like you may just need to get a gauge and see what's happening at WOT. Good luck getting it figured out.

Working on a fix too Tim. Check out "Anyone running a DF 165" thread. I'm having the same issues. Please let me know if you find out anything and I will do the same for you.

I'm needing to check the same, no p0087 code, but I can't sustain rail pressure, valve is shimmed. I need to put on a gauge and do the bottle test. Can anyone point me in the direction of how to do the bottle test? I forgot.
