Well guys I traded the Duramax. It started hazing like I bent a rod. And seeing as I still have lots of hospital and doctor bills, I couldn't afford to be working on it.

Flame suit on........

I bought a '08 mega cab. I know you're all gonna say "you'll be working on the cummins just as much" but it was nice and the dodge dealer just efed themselves on how much they gave me for it.

Just give me some time and I'll have another duramax. Just this was the best option now.

They're fine trucks. I'm loyal to GM for some reason but I would never by naive enough to say the dodge/cummins is bad choice. If I were shopping for a truck, I've vowed to at least try out a mega cab cummins before buying a chevy.

You gotta do what you gotta do. I'm not going to hate on a guy who's responsible enough to make the tough call when needed

x10. It sucks to have to make these choices but being responsible enough to do it make one a stand up person. I still haven't ever owned a Dmax just build them for people. With 1 in college, 1 soon to be in college and a 5th grader I can't justify buying one right now. Good luck hope it works out for you.

Did you do any balance rates on your dmax? Any white smoke at idle? Could have been an injector. Why do you think you bent a rod? What kind of power adders did you have on it? You traded a RC/LB manual for a dodge mega cab? Is it a stick or auto? Sure as hell have a lot more room that is for sure.

Yeah I got into thus one with only having to make $40 more a month on payments.

Ken I was around 500hp and it made 1170tq. I don't have efi. My buddy does and he is about 5 hrs away working and about to head to Colorado on vacation. I could have just started driving a work truck (which I've done before). But I didn't won't the duramax to just sit and collect dust.

x2 on losing the DPF and EGR ASAP.

Also add a good secondary filtration system with a good water separator. I've heard of quite a few of the 6.7s that have had water contamination issues diagnosed by dealerships. They say it isn't covered under warranty and the quotes for repairs come in over $10k.

On the plus side, EFI is working on Cummins support for the late model 5.9s and the 6.7s are up once they get those figured out. Maybe they'll have something available in a year or two.

Yep. I'm one of those EAGERLY waiting for EFI:D

Alot of those water-in-fuel or fuel contamination diagnoses from the dealer are injectors or something else. They just say water in fuel so they don't have to pay. If that happens, have the fuel tested seperately.

But yea, I agree on some better filtration. I'd suggest an AirDog with a Donaldson P551315 fuel filter. Its a 3micron filter, way better than AirDog comes with. And a Luberfiner LFF9594 f/w sep.

Damn all this all over again. I was planning on the dpf and egr pronto. But I didn't know about the water in fuel issue. So I guess I will get a ad or the new fass.

Jeff they gave me 15,500 or so for my truck.

Cummins are great, but dodge trucks feel cheap inside, and dodge and ford both feel sort of.......distant, as far as the dash and controls. I like Chevys cause it feels like a cockpit. And on my '03 I can't see all the lines where the cheap plastic panels click together

oh I can't explain it, to each his own. But I'd drive the he'll out of a chevy with a cummins/allison

I talk alot of crap, but it is mostly in good fun, I can't see how anyone could say man the duramax sucks or the cummins sucks or the powerstroke sucks (except the 6.0) they are all awsome trucks and motors. I have always loved the Cummins trucks and the clatter box 7.3's I would drive any of them right now with no regrets. Best of luck with the Big Dodge, they are very nice trucks.

I think you came out pretty IMO. I don't really care for the new dodges, but I would take it over a ford for diesels anyways.

Don't feel bad, just like mostly everyone else has said, cummins are good, I've been trying to sell my truck so I could get a 4dr max, then came across a cummins for a steal of a price and it had a 6spd which is what i want, now i'm torn cause i know nothing about them except their reputation
