So the reliefs don't quench. That does leave very little area that does quench.

Is there a little combustion happening in the quench area, where the black overlaps out onto the top here in the pic?

Back to protrusion, it looks like I might not be able to measure exactly over top of the pin. Just get it as close as I can?

Very hard to tell from the injector marks. They are made as the piston is already on the way down.

Dude, that piston pitting at the top is usually an indication of water in the cylinder. (steam pitting)

Yeah, it's apart because of pinhole leaks in the head, #6. More build up than pitting, tho, cleans up good with WD40 and a rag with some good scrubbing... it'd eat over a gallon of coolant a day, @ 500 miles.
